College Football

sooners baby! ill be rooting for them but wont be too hopeful until i see how the new o-line performs. and as long as murray stays relatively injury free we may have a good year.

but is it me, or is there just a lot of hatred for ou? im attending there now and not a whole lot of people here are fans, in freakin sooner country. it just boggles the mind…

and tebow. oh tebow. yes tebow. another blowjob tebow?
-espn

How can Tebow be the greatest college football player ever when he wasn’t even the second best quarterback last year?

If one wants to argue he is the greatest qb ever, which he isn’t, it at least has a shred of validity. His record, however, doesn’t compare to some past greats. He won a national title as a starting quarterback and one Heisman. If he wins another national title (and maybe another Heisman) we can then place him in the discussion as one of the best quarterbacks ever.

This post isn’t directly aimed at anyone here, but I have heard numerous “experts” in the media make these statements without much a leg to stand on.

Seriously the kid is good but he will be in a long line of outstanding Florida QB’s that amount to a hill beans in the NFL. They really need to stop riding this kids jock is it disturbing.

But he wins championships for the Gators. Look at the career he’s had in college and it can’t really be topped.

Who gives a rats ass if he’ll do anything in the NFL? This is COLLEGE football, and he’s king of the hill right now.

TRUE.

Sounds like you kids are spoiled these days. My freshman year, we went 4-8. Y’all are just sore that we haven’t won national championships, when we should have. Brats!

Really? You’re sure we go to the same school?

Have you BEEN to the walmart on Main?? I think the dress code is something with OU on it, or pajamas, and if you cover both bases you get a smiley face sticker.

And I’ll tell Murray you said for him to stay healthy next time I play him at beer pong.

They always hype stuff just for the sake of hype. it’s the nature of media these days. they spend a lot of time talking about stuff that isn’t really stuff. not who won or lost. not breaking down a play. It’s all opinion and prognosticating, blah, blah, blah, stuff.

And people buy into it, either with you see how great our guy or team is, or I can’t believe they didn’t pick us or my guy.

I don’t agree with the greatest QB in college FB either, but when it comes to greatest “football player” in college FB? I’m on board with it. Two national championships and a Heisman so far. That kid can play.

Are you joking me? Tebow was the best QB last year, he played half the year with an injury, led his team to many big victories, like the SEC championship and the national championship. Bradford on the other hand went 1-2 in big games, and mainly had great success because he had the best Offensive line in college football and tons of weapons around him. Sure he had better numbers than Tebow last season, but there is no way he is a better college QB. Tebow deserved the heisman last season, which would have given him 2 heismans, that would have also made him only the second player in history to win 2 heismans. So IF he wins the heisman this year, he will be only the second player in college football history to win 2 heismans. That right there makes him one of the 2 best players in college football. Secondly, If he wins 3 national title games, he would have by far the most credentials of any player in history, Add in that he should have been the only player in history to win 3 heismans, and 3 national titles, he leads his team like no other his intangibles, his collegiate records, even if he gets hurt on the first play this season and never plays another snap in college football he will go down as one of the greatest players of all time, if he wins the heisman, finishes the season as a national champ, he is the best player ever period. There really isn’t any debate.

V

Tebow

He was the first college football player to both rush and pass for 20 touchdowns in a season and was the first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy

Add those two stats above and then add in 3 national titles, and second player ever to win 2 heismans. Anyone who says he isn’t the greatest ever (after he does what he needs to do this season) is just a hater.

I like Tebow he’s cool, but you have to give UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA credit before him. Let’s look at what Tebow has.

  1. The fastest Strongest Deepest Athletes on Defense and Offense at his disposal EVERY YEAR, with new and better recruits coming in EVERY YEAR.
    2 TTWWOOOO) URBEN MOTHERF’N MEYER… need I say more? I will
    a) He took one of the worst teams in Mid American Confernce and turned them COMPLETELY around in ONE year. Had the Best record in the Mid American Conference over two years that he was there.
    b) Went to UTAH… FIRST YEAR they go 9-2, He’s coach of the year. Then he takes a NON-BCS Team to a BCS bowl, and Wins going undefeated the following year.
    C) Won their bowl game his first year there.
    D) Won the championship his SECOND YEAR there… and for Clarification, Chris Leak was the starting quarterback. With a score of 41 14 Tebow’s Touchdown did not win the game.
  2. Tim Tebow’s first year he DID NOT win a championship… considering what he had a person worthy of “BEST EVER” would definitely have won it.

If you want to give anybody the “Greatest Ever” award it should go to Urben Meyer. How many coaches take 2 different teams to championships in a 3 year period? and Turn around 3 different teams in less then 5?

I am curious to see how Tebow will do in the NFL, there seems to be an unwritten law that states…" I was a kick ass QB in college and owned everyone and everything. I was “the man” on campus, but now I am a total loser on my way toward my first DUI arrest. Then I will have a horrible first year, followed by a second, and eventually be one of the biggest busts to ever have won a Heisman Trophy."

Seriously though, I don’t know why some of these QB’s coming out of college don’t amount to shit once the reach the NFL. There are some no-name undrafted players who end up being incredible (think Hurt Warner of the former Rams and now Cardinals). Oh well, at least they have 50 million reasons to comfort themselves.

Yes I’m not looking forward to hearing Tebow in EVERY conversation (great guy but come on, hearing about anyone this much is going to have that effect) but more importantly, lets see how much talk their is about a playoff on ESPN now since they have rights to the BCS Title game starting in 2011 (I believe). We’ll see how much “influence” the higher ups have on what is said about the BCS now, and by god it is gonna suck if they cease and desist on it.

In CBS SPORTS we trust. Those guys over there are legit.

Yessir, for every Palmer there’s a Lienart, Alex and Akili Smith.

It’s few and far between that a high profile QB makes it happen in the NFL. Guys like Romo, Favre, Delhomme, and even Brady weren’t the sexy college QB, but made it happen in the pros.

It’s cool to see guys like Matt Ryan doing good though. Doing the little things, like buying a new stereo system for the locker room as a rookie shows he’s good people, and success oriented.

In almost no other position do you see such failure when transitioning from college to the NFL. I read an article in the LA Times this morning, where Taylor Mayes could be a Heisman candidate because not only is he so dominant, but people get tired of seeing QB’s winning it and doing nothing in the NFL.

I agree, that it is hella cool for a guy to throw down for a new sound system on his own coin. That is a guy who gets it, since he is buying something for the team who provided him with his wealth.

After my first year at USC, I went to my high school rival game and was able to talk with some of the kids. Many of them already knew me since I was there the year before, but being able to talk with them after going to the next level was awesome. I couldnt quite buy a sound system, but shooting the shit with them just made it worth while for them and myself.

Yea, these are horrible numbers for a rookie QB who isn’t even the starter. His 13 TD’s didn’t ever help his team win, his 800 Combined yards didn’t either. What was I thinking saying he won a national championship, when clearly he rode the bench all year and didn’t account for any of his teams success.

I NEVER said he had horrible numbers, or rode the bench. What I did say was he isn’t the greatest ever, and that’s by far. Florida also would’ve won without him. Anybody who watched Florida that year would know that. Florida had 26 MORE touchdowns then their opponents last year, 57 total. 13 is nice but Chris Leaks 25 TD and the teams 19 made him getting 13 a whole lot easier. See how many championships Sam Bradford or any other high profile QB would win if his team could score 44 touchdowns without him.

Best player? He plays one position and one sport. Charlie Ward played Basketball and Football and excelled in both (including a Heisman and National title and NBA career).

Tebow is a better player than Barry Sanders, Thurman Thomas, Billy Simms, Steve Davis, Vince Young, Reggie Bush, Charlie Ward, Ricky Williams, Brian Bosworth, Peyton Manning, Tommy Harris, Bo Jackson, Archie Griffin, Earl Campbell, etc, etc?

He was on the team when they won the title in 06. He didn’t start, but played in certain situations. Florida would have won the title without him. Chris Leake was the starter.
