As I predicted. I have no idea why Boise State is #5. Undefeated is great, but not when it means beating UC Davis. I expect that team to drop like a stone when the BCS rankings come out. Crossing fingers for a loss at Tulsa.

Speaking of Boise State, I actually have an idea for a statistical analysis to see if the blue turf adds an unfair advantage in their home games. I’ve always suspected it does.

Hang on there,
I don’t think Boise should be ranked where they are either, certainly not ahead of my Horned Frogs who beat them last year, but almost every team in America has scheduled a 1AA bodybag for the 12th game. Most of the “powers” from the Big 12 and SEC only schedule 1 decent OOC game out of their 4 games.

As for Boises home record, how many good teams actually play them at home? If USC, and Nebraska, and Bama, UT and OU all think they are so much better, how bout going up there and playing them?
I will take that challenge gladly. I will play them on that nasty blue turf, grass, dirt, or the parking lot concrete for all I care. I don’t believe Boise State to be in the caliber of Florida, Bama, Texas, Va Tech, USC, etc.

This week should be good, Texas vs Oklahoma (which could be a spoiler), and I am glad Oklahoma has them at home. I think home field advantage can be significant, especially at a Sooner game. I just hope it’s enough.

USC at Notre Dame will be good, I hate that fucking stadium by the way. They have ground level seats, so you really feel like the crowd is “on” you. They are always good games.

Va Tech at Georgia Tech, I don’t expect much from that game, nor the Florida/Arkansas game.

If there will be a spoiler this week, I see as either the Tex/Okla game or the Boise State/Tulsa game, hopefully both.

That is a no-win scenario for a team like 'SC. If you win, it doesn’t help you because you were supposed to win. If you lose, you drop big for losing to a team from a shitty conference. Add to that the blue field, crazy crowd, and its just not worth the risk. Better to play a big name team from a BCS conference than a Boise, Fresno, etc.

I gotta come back in here and straighten y’all out! Bama jumped Texas in the AP Poll (a poll that isn’t even in the BCS formula) but ESPN had an article recently talking about if the BCS standings came out last week that Texas would have been #4 behind UF, Bama, and Virginia Tech. Granted all this controversy means nothing until the end of the year if we have 3 unbeaten teams but chances of that happening are low (granted it has happened before plenty of times though)

I am REAL curious to watch the Texas-Oklahoma game, I am a Sooner fan this week, also Tulsa tomorrow night.

Then they will have to sit by and watch Boise be over rated. USC plays over blown Notre Dame every year (tradition, I know) and Ohio State (I’m sure it’s a contract) but they have been exposed years ago.

Boise did show they belonged the last time they played a BCS team in OU. They also bitch slapped the Duckies, who are now doing well. The WAC is weak but Boise is ESPN’s media darling. The one thing they have going for them is that they are willing to play midweek games. You don’t hear as much about TCU, Utah, and BYU since the MWC got their own TV deal. I really enjoy playing on Saturdays again.

Texas could certainly ditch Monroe, Wyoming, UTEP, or UCF if so inclined. The SEC teams play 4 OOC games, how many teams play more than 1 good team in their 4 OOC games?

Urm . . . the Red River Shootout between OU and Texas is always played in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, regardless of who the “home” team is. I believe each school gets an equal number of tickets to the game. So no home-field advantage for the Sooners, unfortunately.

But Notre Dame is not overblown every year. I mean, in 2005 a solid Notre Dame squad almost jeopardized USC’s national championship bid. And both of the past two years, Ohio St. has been ranked pretty damn high at the time USC played them and last year they remained high at the end of the season. I’m sorry, but you can’t knock USC’s out-of-conference schedule.

You are also ignoring the fact that your beloved Boise State doesn’t play any tougher of an out-of-conference schedule than the SEC teams you are picking on. Their lone tough game was against Oregon. The remainder of their games consist of shitty WAC teams and a couple high school teams. When your entire regular season consists of the very teams that other conferences use to warm up, you ought to refrain from doing your own “warming up” on I-AA teams. If Boise State wants to be taken seriously, THEY need to go out and play some big boys in their OOC play.

Hang on there EIC, Boise is not my beloved, TCU is, but I hear the same arguments. I’ve already acknowledged that the WAC is weak, but so is the big East, and haven’t heard a peep about Cincy being overrated at 8. Boise should not be ahead of TCU, and I’m quite happy with the Frogs ranking so far this year.

It is not that easy to get one of the big boys to come to your house. TCU has been trying to get this for years with mixed success. This year we played at UVA and Clemson, unfortunately Clemson, like UT in 2007 was a one and done. Look for future home games against OU, UVA, home and homes with LSU, Arkansas, Tech, and Baylor. I suspect Boise is trying as well, but I can’t speak to that. I would remind you what they did to OU.

USC plays a good OOC schedule, but my point was that Ohio State and Notre Dame are highly regarded more for their traditions than their current results. Bama is my #2 favorite, and 3 of their 4 OOC games are cream puffs. We need a playoff! Have a good day.

Eic is correct. Each school gets 35 thousand tickets (the Cotton Bowl was renovated a couple of years ago and now holds over 92,000, so this number is probably larger). You’ll notice if you watch the game that the stadium is divided right down the middle, Crimson on one side and puke Orange on the other.

The game has been played in Dallas since 1912 and at the Cotton Bowl since the early 1930s.

I was not aware that the game was played at the Cotton Bowl, with both teams getting equal number of tickets. The Cotton Bowl stadium is kinda run down when I was there last in 1995 against Texas Tech. Unless they renovated or upgraded it, it’s pretty beat up in the locker rooms and stuff. Hey at least no one will be getting tortillas thrown at them by the fans.

The game will eventually move to Jerry World, meaning it will cost you an arm and a leg to get in, but I may be confusing this with the Cotton Bowl game. FWIW the fearless leaders of the City of Dallas have poured a ton of money into that facility the last few years and made a lot of upgrades, now that the cat is out of the bag. The neighborhood is still a dump.

The rivalry in a ten minute clip.

What a day, Jeremey Kerley makes the ESPN #1 play of the day with an electrifying 68 yard punt reurn. Frogs 44 CSU 6. 2 weeks in a row he’s taken it to the house.
Here’s the punt return:

Bama has a smothering D and a stud back. If they could pass they’d win the national championship. That would make me happy.

TOSU and Virginia Tech fell.

Texas beats OU in a game I missed much of cuz I was at a wedding “shower” I really didn’t want to be at. Kinda glad UT won but hate to see Bradford hurt.

What a week in football, all of the major teams struggled to win, many games were decided in the last few moments. Florida barely made it past Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma was a literally fist fight to the end, Va Tech loses to Ga Tech, USC wins at the wire against Notre Dame. Football like this ages me, literally.

Good weekend for sure (my team finally played a complete game and kicked some major ass against Wake Forest). I see TCU is now #7 in the Coaches poll (not the worthless AP poll) so Spike y’all are getting up there!

New BCS polls are wack. I want to see Cincy or Boise State play a powerhouse team.

Hey,
Was glad to see y’all get a big win! Frogs are getting some respect, and I’m ecstatic to be 6-0, although we actually had a very rough 1st quarter. I’m kinda holding my breath for now. We play BYU up there Saturday, then Utah at home in a few weeks. I’ll miss Utah, the most important home game of the year, because of a wedding. Anyway if we get those 2 W’s I’ll feel a lot better. Until then the polls are just a popularity contest. I’ve decided I’m going to the bowl, wherever it is. Just hope we don’t somehow end up playing Bama, can you say house divided? Good luck Tigers!

Also met a really nice girl. It’s been a pretty good week.

Alright Max, who you taking against Texas in the BCS championship, Bama or Gators?

Damn…I know people are raggin on Texas, but come on now.
DJHT wrote:

I really don’t know at this point, I mean all top 5 teams struggled, and I mean the real top 5, not the BCS top 5.

This Saturday, Bama is at Tennessee, that will be a much more telling game for Bama. Tennessee is good enough to win, but will they, I have no idea. I do have more respect for Texas because they played against Oklahoma, and not Arkansas or South Carolina. The Texas-Oklahoma game was a very close game, no one really beat up the other. It was all around very evenly matched.

If Bama can finish out strong, I think they will be in the title game against Texas, and I see Texas winning that match up. Texas has shown that it can find a way to win against a very good Oklahoma team, which is much better than it has been given credit for. That is a key component for a championship team, finding a way to win when nothing is working.

I am still bitter over the BCS rankings, how to fuck do you rank Boise State and Cincy in the top 6?
