LOL @ LSU getting 1 first place vote in the AP Poll
I’m going to mention something I thought about last night, though I’m not sure I believe it.
Towards the end of the season I read a couple of regional writers who said the LSU players they had a chance to talk to said they firmly believed that Alabama was the only team that could beat them and a lot of them felt really lucky they won the first game.
At the begining of last nights game I told my wife I thought that LSU looked really stiff and tentative and a very small part of me wonders if they came in more worried about losing that amped about the chance to win.

Sorry, that was me. I thought it would be funny.
Foolish to have U of M ahead of Michigan State. Woverines arent’ there yet, they need to earn it.
And I guess Wisconsin doesn’t have a QB now that Wilson is leaving?
Bah, fuck it. Way too early to judge.

Congrats to Bama and Saban.
Three NC’s in 9 years is pretty freaking spectacular. I’m very ready for a national champion to come out of some other conference though. This SEC dominance has to tail off at some point.
As for LSU.
How did Jarret Lee not get on the field at all? Miles is going to be drilled with those questions today thru all off season I’m sure.
I think it was due to how poorly Lee played in the first game.
Plus Lee had 1 touchdown and seven picks when playing against Alabama for his career. The only QB who is more afraid of bama’s crimson is Kirk Cousins.
I think you have a good chance for a non-SEC team next year. All of the top teams will have some issues.
I completely understand what you mean. But when your offence hasn’t done a stinking thing for an entire half, how do you stay with that gameplan when there is a serviceable QB on the sideline?
At that point it seems you’re praying for Bama offense to have a turnover or an injury or for special teams to make a play.
You’ve basically conceded the victory, IMO.
The thing is though that LSU had gotten that game changing play from its defense and special teams before. I think Miles was kind of waiting for it to start pulling out the tricks.
That’s what’s dissapointing. When the fourth quarter begins and you’re down by two scores you have to start executing your own game plan rather than play the waiting game. Forgive my innacuracy but I think there was about 13 minutes left in the 4th when LSU had to punt. No fake, didn’t go for it, just punted it away. Fully knowing that they were giving the ball to an offence that was going to chow down on the clock and either get another field goal or punt them in to crappy field position.
So many times in the past Miles would have created something in that moment, but it didn’t happen. They were tentative, gunshy, and they played too close to the vest.
Damn shame, they deserve to be the champions, but now they’re Oregon, more or less. Miles.
Ha!
I think he was looking for a point whee their starting field position was good and it didn’t happen. Which is surprising, really.
I think that is the most reasonable explanation. On various possessions, they just passed the ball or just ran the option so they did try different things but none of it worked. Add to that JJ not running when he could or doing stupid things like a shovel pass to a RB that was turning to block for you since you tucked the ball to run up the middle, etc. So, I think they tried more things than it seems because nothing good came of it and those efforts were muddled in botched snaps, penalties, etc. That said, I would have like to see Lee come in and send receivers on slants, give nad go, etc. or plays they had practiced that would get the ball out of his hand in 2 sec. or less. It didn’t appear they had that in the bag though.
Which leads me to the question of:
What the fuck have they been doing since the SEC championship game against UGA?
Partying?
Dammit man, you got a NC game in your back yard against a team that is your #1 competitor not only in conference but in recruiting and you’re not going to be the most prepared you’ve ever been ever for a game in your life ever?
You’re goona rely on Honey Badgers’ moxy singlularly against a team as powerful as Bama?
That’s what I’m dissapointed in. They weren’t nearly as prepared as Bama. Hats off to the Tide, they came in and executed. LSU came in spinning parasols and honking trombones like a mardi gras parade but none of it matters in between the endzones.
It is a good question about preparation. I think part could be rooted in the confidence in the QB. Saban and co. came in with the plan not to use Trent Richardson to grind out 180+ total yards again while transferring that responsibility to a rookie QB who stepped and executed. I don’t think anyone with 12 weeks of prep. would put that much confidence in Jefferson or Lee for a similar game plan. Saban did and they executed to victory.
LSU did not believe Bama would do what they did. The first game Bama ran the ball on first down a lot and LSU loaded the box a lot. This game they loaded the box a lot and Bama threw it a lot.

That very well could be. I do think there is s systematic reason beyond the coaching and game plan based on LSUs body language. They looked shell-shocked. I was sitting there thinking surely we’ll find out tomorrow they all had the flu or food poisoning or some reasonable explanation - ANYTHING!!!

Yep, Les Miles suddenly forgot how to coach. I mean really he only has two other NC Rings why should anyone think he can coach?
I do happen to think you have one salient point. I also think Stanford, Oregon and Ok. St. put up 14-20 on Bama. Of course I bet Bama puts up 40 on those absolutely wretched deenses. You did see the tackling in both of those bowl games right?
Seriously, change your tampon and get the hell over your rediculousness. Your crazy cat lady dislike of something doesn’t make it fact.
If you think Bama is going to make the NC game next year, after all the guys we lose this year, to play SC you need to stop talking about football and watch some.
No one doubts he can coach but he got out-coached yesterday and took absolutely no chances. He even punted it late in the 4th quarter. He had no trust in his QB and that basically de-moralised his offence.
And of course “you bet” 'Bama beats those teams because Alabama is by far the superior team right? No one except SEC fans and the worst system in sports agrees.
I don’t mean any disrespect but you totally miscomprehended most of that post. USC will replace 'Bama in the national championship next year. Hopefully with Oregon joining them.

Oregon is going to have to D-up if they want any sort of play on a national championship scale man. Wisconsin hung 38 on them in the Rose Bowl, and only two of their last 8 games saw them hold a team under 20 points.
USC though? Whole different ball of wax.
And don’t sleep on the big 10! Wisconsin, Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State, and Nebraska could all play spoiler next season too.

For others or for each other.

I’d say for each other before I said it on a national scale. I don’t see a standout Big10 champ next season, which essentially ruins any shot at a national champ spoiler because you need to be undefeated or a 1-loss SEC team.

I get it dude, you have an axe to grind over the SEC and you’ve transfered part of it to ESPN.
You’re entiled but it doesn’t make it reasonable.
Like I said before the last poll, I was willing to let the BCS and AP polls tell us who is what and they did.
People can either deal with it or pitch a fit like a petulant child.

I completely agree. In the first quarter I told my wife that there was something wrong with Jefferson. He was out of it, looked like he was struggling to come to his senses. As others have posted, it seemed LSU just didn’t have the fire that was there the first time around. Of course you can see glimpses of this in the first half of the SEC Championship game.

Honestly though every college football fan should be happy this happened because maybe it will get the Big-10 and PAC-10 to stop being A-holes and get onboard for at least a plus one.
Say what you what about the SEC and some of our idiot fans but conference wise we’ve been pushing for some kind of play off for a while.
The idea of a BCS four team play off was proposed in 2008 by Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive and supported by the Atlantic Coast Conferences John Swofford, but it was emphatically shot down by the leaders of the Big Ten, Pac-10, Big East, Big 12 and Notre Dame. Well tell me, how did that workout for you…
Its looking more and more like we are going to get at least a plus one.

Another possible factor could be all the sports coverage talking about LSU’s 13-0 season, greatest strength of schedule, beat Bama in Bama, SEC Champs, etc. A lot of pats on the back from Nov. 5th all the way to Jan. 9th. The whole time Saban is telling his players - “See, they say we shouldn’t be here. Let’s go prove it.” Redemption is a great motivator and added to Bama’s focus and preparation bleeding over into game intensity.
