I’ve seen nothing better than a Mad Dog knife. Of course you will pay, but you’re not getting some over priced thing that won’t deliver in the wild. Check out www.edgedspecialties.com or www.mdtactical.com. You won’t regret it if you ever buy one.

Other than having one helluva an edge you get a lifetime warranty and free sharpening , (you pay for shipping and return postage and can’t try to take it apart and refinish it or something else stupid), incredible performance, different tempering to have a strong, sharp edge, but still retain a flexible enough spine to prevent breakage.

You’ll have a knife that will hold value or appreciate even with regular usage. You pay 995$ for an ATAK now and use it hard, you’ll get 995$ for it in ten years. I’ve paid 250$ to 4000$ for some of his work over the years. That 250$ knife got me 1500$ from a dealer 17 years later. He sold it for 2850$!

You get a glass composite handle that will insulate you from 20,000+ volts which will withstand over 70,000 psi crushing force btw. Kevin’s sight is www.tacticalforums.com btw. You must apply for membership. You’ll be approved, but he doesn’t tolerate nonsense. [/quote]

Thanks for the info. I truly never heard of that Make. And I notice 2 things they are some swet Blades and yes they are expensive. I would love to handle one before I put out that kind of loot. I guess I will hunt down a dealer or hopefully find one in a trade.

I genuinely regret posting that garbage. The knife was developed for military use, but after a second viewing I see that the guy takes something like 18 seconds rest between melon-murdering. I stand by my Bruce Lee pun, though - it was apt.

Good info, guys! Four60, like you, I tend to think of the price in respect to usage/loss. But, I have to agree that quality will cost. I’ll probably purchase a couple as my “deployment gift!” Good times!!

All this Blade talk made me go down to college park and pick up the Recon 1. It is nice. Heavy in the hand but nice. 4inch blade tactical. Beast I think you will like this blade I picked it up for 59 plus tax came to 63.

This is a older version of the same blade. Thay made some modifications to mine. It has a thumb flip now and they have ridges at the top for a no slip feel for the thumb.

The guys that know Kevin have given me an education on knives and steel. Cold Steel isn’t thought of very highly, and no it’s not because he didn’t make them. The steel really isn’t that special. Kevin McClung was an actual rocket scientist who always had a love of weaponry and decided to make knives.

He also has taught the Navy SEALs knife fighting. He’s a skilled martial artist and a pretty nifty gunsmith. His stuff is the best there is.

He’s said some nice stuff about Al Mar, but he’s dead now. He’s a very practical guy who believes knives should look good, but form should always follow function.

I love Cold Steel. Between me and my two brothers we have over a dozen of their blades, and have never had problems with any of them. Not just knives either. Spears, Tomahawks, Swords, they make everything well. They may not be “Rocket Scientist” good, but they are the best blades for the money, hands down. I also like that they back their shit up on the dvds. Like when the guy is chopping baseballs in half with one chop. That is pretty impressive to me.

Also, they LITERALLY back their shit up, in that, if you ever have a problem with one of their products, you ship it back and get a new one. After using Cold Steel products for years, I have nothing but good things to say about them, and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a high quality knife that will last a lifetime.

I actually have three Cold Steel knives, a mini tanto, a tanto, and an SRK parkerized steel. They’re okay, but many blademakers do the same with a warranty or have knives that perform as well. they’re more a product of hype than actual high end quality.

The guy I mentioned actually one a knife off for making an official SEAL knife. The problem came when he hard a hard time getting knives out for the demand. But nothing came close. Most of us will never depend more than a Kabar will deliver, but there might be that time when you’re in need and an ATAK will always deliver.

He has made over 100 different knives for different purposes, all out of the same steel and handle. There are some composite and ceramic knives he made out there, but they were speciality items .

I have other knives, such as Spyderco, Gerber, a Bud Nealy, and another new fella who I forgot his name. But nothing compares to these things.

Hey I understand the need or desire to have a Knife of supierior quality like the Mad Dog blades (they look like great blades). And I may own one or a couple some day.

But on the day to day I need or more a less I WANT a blade that if my brother asked me to throw it to him so he could cut the seatbelt off some old lady stuck in her car and he leaves it in there. I wont care, because it did its job and I could afford to pick up another without much stress to my bank account.

I also own a spyderco, Gerber (no bud nealy yet), Bench Made and some of the Buck Series Blades and now I own a Cold Steel and another on the way…gotta say the one I got yesterday the Recon 1 is sweeeeettttt.

Many of these blades are good enough, but the Mad Dogs are just out of this world. Check out Stephan Fowler’s blades for a more economical type. 500$ for a full sized Bowie style isn’t that crazy or to much IMO.

Kevin has some smaller blades available, but they still run 700$+. I don’t use them day to day because I’m unsure of the Pa. laws in regards to carrying a knife. It seems no one can give me a straight answer. So I use a clip regular spyderco or gerber. And for a now and then use, they’ll be just fine.

I was subscribed to uscav.com’s catalog many years back. They do military surplus offers online. Check out their knife/sword offers. From multi tools to axes to swords, they’ve got everything.

They used to have some pretty badass dragon swords. They don’t seem to be in stock now…
