Coca Cola Controversy

Coca Cola’s Super Bowl commercial is causing quite a stir among conservatives. Now those are some people who need to get a life.

There is thankfully a difference between conservatives and moderate Republicans.

agreed, although this type of bullshit only further perpetuates the stereotypical image of everyone on the right being racist.

ehh… So many more important things to get fussed up about imo.

Getting fussed up about them getting fussed up is equally wasted energy imo.

(Not saying anyone in this thread is.)

True but I don’t think it is racism. If it happened in Zimbabwe it would be called nationalism, no?

There is pride in your nation, and then there is making mountains out of mole hills when more important affronts to America are consistently being perpetuated upon the citizens of this nation by its own, varying levels of government.

I tend to be pretty small government conservative, but this xenophobic bullshit has got to go. What happened to the mrlting pot?

When I travel abroad I meet a lot of people from all over the world but I’m always surprised how few Americans (and Russians for that matter) I see considering the size and wealth of the US.

Ah, the melting pot is racist.

It makes other cultures combine with Western Culture and Western Culture is bad.

Keep up.

The term since 1985 has been “mosaic.”

The U.S. never really was a melting pot though.

I much prefer the salad, or fruit bowl, analogy. A number of different fruits and/or salads, with their tastes occasionally mixing to give us something “new”.

But it won’t ever fully merge into one, as the melting pot would suggest, unless someone went and took the entire bowl into a mixer.

I do not think it would be an issue Zimbabwe has many national languages…

This has nothing to do with Republicans or Conservatives. I am about as conservative as a human can be, and don’t care about this. Nor am I unusual.

It’s the same thing as “I’d Like Buy the World a Coke” that Coca-Cola has been doing since it commissioned the song in 1971.

This whole “let’s pick out one or two nuts and pretend they are the face of Conservatism” meme is tired and old.

Liberals need to get a new schtick.

Coke’s been trying to push its sugar-water poison on a multi-cultural world since at least 1971. I’m not sure what the fuss is about now.

Hehe. I think Jewbaca just beat me to it.

I think it is more like a “vinaigrette” you can mix the shit out of it but, in time it will separate.

It is nationalism.

But nationalism generally has hints of, or is outright dependent on, racism or prejudice.

You need to create a “we”, in order to create a nationalist belief. Anyone who is not in “we” are “them” or “others” or w.e., and since they are not “we”, we shouldn’t like them.

Because it wouldn’t be nationalism otherwise…

This “bullshit” has been around for quite some time if you think about it.

Every new group of immigrant faced (faces) an uphill struggle for assimilation.

LOL, jerk. You know what I’m saying.

Insert a better example in there for a country, lol.

In fairness, the dissent was mainly on social media with #speakamerican trending on Twitter so I don’t see any evidence to solely point the finger at conservatives. You know the retards that use social media, they’re mainly stupid and ignorant HS kids and losers in their 20s. Still, I think it speaks to Americans broadly, as opposed to a those with a right-wing political ideology specifically.

Right, so eventually, we all become we, because we run out of “others” to hate.

Also, lets not pretend it is only American “conservatives” that are guilty of this. Like JB said, it is some fringe opinions and media blow hards, and suddenly all of conservatism is the evil that spins the globe. It is annoying political game.
