As long as soda = desirable, you’ll be tempted by it. Everytime you’re tempted by it, it takes some psychological energy to resist it. Everytime you do decide to have one, it makes resisting it the next time a little bit harder.
Everytime you’re tempted to have one, you have to consider if it “fits” into your diet. When was the last time I had one? What other “junk” food have I had lately? Where am I with my progress? If I have one today I probably shouldnt have one tomorrow. Maybe I’ll just train a little harder tomorrow and make up for it. And then there’s the excuses. I’m angry, I dont give a fuck, I’m having a coke. I’m stressed. I’m tired.
There’s some evidence that willpower is actually a limited thing - that it can actually ‘run out’. Which explains fairly well some common behaviors… people tend to ‘slip’ on their diets while they’re quitting smoking. People who have a job they hate feel too ‘drained’ to exercise (even if the job is a desk job).
If you break that psychological association with Coke, and see it as you would a cigarette, you no longer have to deal with that repeated stress. Its simply “no” and it gets easier every time.
Oh gosh people having a coke after a session is fine. There are better options but it isn’t so terrible.
And most of the “outrageous” things listed in this thread that cake can do can as easily be said of tomato juice. Some of these threads, like the one about microwaves, where people mention something “bad” that something can do to something unrelated to its actual use as evidence to not use it are dumb.
A fucking cow could trample someone to death, but that is an asinine reason to not eat one.
If you want a coke as a reward after a tough session drink a fucking coke.
