Honestly, if you want to work on Squat, then I’d focus on Squat program. I wouldn’t squat twice a week on the Coan/Philippi program. Actually, I wouldn’t do anything other than maintenance work for it.

I was still Squatting heavy while on C/P and I crashed hard on week 7. It took 3 or 4 weeks to recover.

If you are still going to Squat heavy, then eat everything that isn’t nailed down.

I’ve added a whole piza to my diet, daily.

That’s a good start. What are you doing for post workout nutrition?

For me, I prefer a 2nd pizza; thin crust of course because I don’t want to get too fat.

As much as I agree with you about keeping everything at maintenance level, I’m not. I am still pushing the pace with my other lifts and squatting twice a week. One heavy day and then another lighter day of about 60%. Of course I haven’t done the lighter leg day in several weeks.

Coan/Philipi Deadlift Cycle Week 4

DELAYED

I decided against doing week 4 yesterday because I would not have been fully recovered. The last two days I have been at home doing some remodeling. Modi went through a similar situation, with less than stellar results. So I’ll wait until this Friday. No worries.

I’ll probably be joining the adventure in early September. I’m gonna set the goal as 265kg (585lb) and do it in a really light pair of briefs for the first 4 or 5 weeks.

Once the heavy PR weeks come I’ll stick on my comp suit and go at it. I should hopefully pull 272.5 in it after it’s all said and done.

Here’s hoping!!

Sumo!! Im taking some time to rehab my leg before I juump into it.

Officially ended my run with this program.

Participated in a push/pull meet Saturday. I didn’t bench due to a rehabbing shoulder.

The comp. was in a bar on the beach, so needless to say it was fucking hot and humid. I opened with 505 and smoked it. Jumped to 535 and smoked that too. I decided on 550 which would have been a PR by 5 pounds for me. I got that bitch to mid thigh when my hand just pulled open.

Mother fucker, I had that shit no problems. I have not had any problems with grip in a very long time and I am blaming the humidity and shitty chalk. My buddy pulling after me had the exact same problem with 585, except he also tore a callus, so that confirms my belief.

I think I’m gonna target 6 plates for November…

today:
deadlift
225x2
315x2
365x1
400x1PR Ripped another calouse off the same hand. Every CP workout so far…

Speed deads:
None, ripped my hand up.

circuit

SLDL
225x8
245x8
265x6 by this point I was bleeding pretty badly on the bar… called it a day.

DB rows:
90x8
95x8
These were what finished off my hand. I ripped the calouse off deadlifting, these ripped it to the point of bleeding

Lat pulldowns
132x8
132x8
144x5

good mornings:
115 3x8

Is anyone else having problems with ripping off calouses? I’ve had it happen every deadlift day. I can’t do the cycle properly this way.

I also don’t think I’m getting anything out of these good mornings. I want to try chain suspended GMs but don’t have the equipment. All they do is make me feel pain after dling.

I guess I have to wait to see what the post cycle results are.

Coan week 3 (8/4/08)

OH YEAH BABY!!!

DL - 135x10,225x5,295x2,335x1,380x2

I wondered how I would do on the heavy double. Consider that my max is 390, and that was probably a 10 sec grind w/ my hands opening almost from the get-go and I may not have completely locked out. So I took about a 2 min breather before going at it. I bend down, grab it, start pulling…kinda difficult…stand up, snap hips forward (1!), go back down, come back up, snap again. I NAILED IT. Both reps in under 5 total secs and no grip issues whatsoever. I am so jacked and ready for next Monday.

Edit: I felt like I could pull 380 for another rep in the set.

speed DL - 310x3(6x)

These weren’t speedy, but I managed to do all sets w/ only 90 sec breaks.

RDL - 205x8(3x) same as last week.

Rows - 125x8(3x) bumped these up from last week.

GM - 135x8(3x)

Sometime during the DLs I ripped open a callus. It didn’t bleed. I didn’t notice it until I was setting up the rack for the circuit. At least it has a week to heal. If there isn’t a decent layer of skin over it by Monday I’ll probably put some tape or a bandaid over it.

so lucky.

For you guys tearing open your hands and trying to push thru… don’t be crazy. Throw on straps for a week or two and let it heal.

Which do you think is more hardcore?
-Staying away from straps and tearing your hands open time and time again to the point of being unable to train
OR
-Finishing the workout and persisting with the cycle by any means necessary?

I ripped my 1st one today, but no blood. What about tape or a bandaid or something? Maybe run it lengthwise from below the 1st knuckle over the troublespot onto the palm about an inch?

Point of reference on GMs. My max is 255 and I’m doing 135x8. Somewhat challenging but not too taxing on my back. I wanted to save my back for the DLs.

I have no idea how to make straps work. I’ve tried twice now, and my grip slips because the bar is fatter…

What about hooks? I saw some laying in the gym today by the rack. Looks like they wrap around your wrist and it bears the weight instead of your hands.
