Coach, what would you suggest as a mass gaining workout, I have about 3 months to add atleast ten pounds, but I can’t afford to gain any amount of fat. Currently I train westside style 4 days a week.
Sorry I am far from coach Davies but I will give you my advice, mass gain has more to do with your diet then your training, I suggest you follow massive eating, this will help increase the muscle to fat ratio, also most mass gain phase fail because you worry to much about fat gain, that can dieted off later, face the facts associated with gaining muscle YOU WILL GAIN SOME FAT… also toss out some stats, your age HT, WT, and body fat % how about how many calories, grams of carbs, protein, and fat are you presently consuming?
well let me set this up for your. Whenever one wants to gain a significant or any amount of (muscular) weight there will be atleast some fat gain. So you want to gain 10 lbs, but your catch-22 is that none of it can be fat, there fore you can’t gain anyweight.
well interesting you just asked that because TC received an article a few days ago dealing with that topic. It includes a detailed 3 week training model that I think you will like. Let me know how I can help. In faith, Coach Davies
Are you training for powerlifting competition, bodybuilding or other sport? If you’re a powerlifter you can’t go wrong with the westside training. 3 months is plenty of time to gain 10 lbs of lean mass. The previous post had a good recommendation on incoporating massive eating. I would incoporate this with a version of the zig/zag or Delta 1250 program. Increase calories for a period of time while you put on some muscle and some fat and then reduce them for a short period of time to get rid of the fat.
I understand gaining muscle wo fat is impossible, but I need to gain muscle and keep the fat off as well. The massive eating zig/zag routinue seems like a good idea, so Ill be getting bigger and then loseing the blubber I gain.
Coach any hints as to what the article TC has says to do, each day that passes Im farther from my goal. Mike
Mike building muscle without fat is not impossible, people do it all the time…and even build muscle and lose fat at the same time…It is typically difficult for someone who has much training experience to do this. Once a certain amount of muscle is built an individual will usually find they won’t grow much more without really pushing the calorie intake up…This is the point where it gets difficult to add lean mass without also putting on some adipose. I don’t know what kind’ve condition you’re in now but if you were to follow Coach Davies Renegade training workouts and eat like a horse you’d probably spark some growth and it sure would be awful hard to put on fat with that training.
just out of curriousity, why don’t you want any fat added, are you competing in a sport that has weight brackets?
I just had to comment that the concept of developing “functional muscle” implictly understands true weight gain does not include body fat or even non-functional muscle. Let me know, how I can help. In faith, Coach Davies
