My track athletes have a meet every week as well. We pick the big ones for our taper. As far as which of the three, we mix it up. Mostly, we’ll either do circuits or old fashioned lifting with complexes during the workout. For example, we’ll do a snatch complex for 5 sets, a one legged squat complex for 5 sets, kettlebells for reps or weight, reverse hypers, chins and abs. That could be one workout. The old coach is going to write about our circuits soon. I know of at least 6 of them. By the way, don’t let the old coach fool you. That’s what he calls himself before he lifts; however, he usually outlifts most everyone. Just ask Scott Mendelson. He becomes the old grey mare when he runs. He has yet to lose a 40 yd dash to any NFL receiver or DB that he has trained. That includes Peter Warrick of the Bengals, who can fly. Some days cycle out the complexes and hit your box squats , deadlifts off platforms or pins, good mornings, lunges, russian glute hams, bulgarian squats and of course KB work. Always try to change and make your body adapt to the stress of training. That is when you get your results.
