Thanks bro.
I like snow running as well. When I am in cold weather climates and training outside remember to some sort of active warmup before stretching. Pay a little more caution and make sure you are stretched out. In faith, Coach Davies
My personal favorite is to put on heavy pacs and an external frame pack (loaded with weights, of course) and just go for it (though RUNNING with this weight is too abusive- a fast hike is better). One and a half mile out and back routes are what I prefer (3 miles total), but when I’m done I sometimes have to take the pack off “turtle style”. That means lying on my back and flopping around like a turtle until I get the straps off, because at that point, I’m usually too damn tired to just lift it off by myself. Thanks for the advice, Coach.
Coach, I respect that you are very busy, so I’ll just say that pictures or a description at some point in the future would be well-received and appreciated. Whopper, thanks for your insite, as well.
Stretching is needed and should be done by everyone whether they workout or not. My point is that yoga’s main goal is not stretching. Like someone said in an earlier post, its been around for hundreds of years. Real yoga is prayer to the demons and real meditation allows the human mind to be infested by demons. Don’t label yoga as stretching. If you want to stretch, then stretch. And remember to keep your mind on guard at all time. The open mind is unguarded. If you don’t believe me do some research. Remeber knowledge is the key. laters pk
pkradgreek, huh? Yoga has nothing to do with demons. Its original intent has to do with reaching enlightenment through various means. There’s no real praying or worshipping involved, just contemplation. There’s also different forms of Yoga; the particular form of yoga that uses stretching and peculiar body positions is just one type. Others concentrate specifically on meditation or cleansing the body.
Before this gets off-topic, my use of Yoga is simply for enhancing flexibility, relaxation and concentration. I apologize if this bothered anyone for spirtual reasons but I can assure you the only “enlightenment” I am looking for is better range of motion. If it helps, for the record I dislike candles, incense and my brand of aromatherapy is steak fajita’s and cold beer. In faith, Coach Davies
I think everybody is overlooking the fact that yoga is the best way to correct structural and muscular imbalances in the body. All physical activity, especially lifting weights, contributes to building imbalance in the body. These imbalances are what lead to the majority of injury in sport. Yoga also teaches you how to breathe correctly, something few Westerners know how to do.
well i guess like many things in modern society, people have lost track of history and have watered things down. I know you guys are not concerned with spirituality, but fitness. I just wanted to make the point of what real yoga is. Its hard for people to understand or comprehend. My basic point was that stretching is needed and that people can do great stretches without having to resort to real yoga itself or to meditation. laters pk
Great subject! I have Pavel’s Beyond Stretching book and his workouts from the Sports Supplement Review. I have found that his explanations are very hard to understand and even harder to apply. He has so many exercises that he uses, it was hard for me to pick from. I did the entire routine a couple of times and it took over an hour. I think that everyone would be more receptive to a flexibility routine that prioritized the bodyparts that are essential to human movement and especially to weightlifters. It would be great to do a few exercises after a warm-up to enhance movement and ROM, and then after the workout a routine that maximized recovery. I am talking about 5-10 mins tops of combined stretching, before and after. I am willingly to wager that most lifters do not even stretch before a workout and their performance suffers because of it. Coach, anything to add?
