hey guys I was just thinking and I realized that most people agree it is not efficient to try to gain muscle while cutting. therefore I was thinking that while attempting to lost fat it would be more effective to focus on strength through development of the CNS, as well as mobility, efficiency and activation work. Although it is difficult to gain muscle while losing fat would it necessarily be difficult to gain strength by developing the CNS?
P.S. I lurk a lot and don’t post often sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum category I couldn’t think of a better place to post it
I think CT has a couple of articles dealing with this. Although getting your CNS better would mostly be a function of training more frequently, I think.
When cutting, the primary goal is typically to lose as much fat as possible and as little muscle as possible. You will lose muscle, so generally your strength will not increase.
I came across this earlier, dunno if its what your after but it might help
sorry i wasn’t specific i am not a bodybuilder i play football and i am trying to gain a large amount of strength as well as muscle right now as the season has just ended however i know that i will eventually need to cut and was therefore wondering in addition to maintaing muscle if it would be a good idea to manipulate training to focus on CNS development in an attempt to gain strength while losing fat.
hope that clears things up a little
You’ve got it. Lift heavy, preserve your muscle mass. If you do whatever you can to get stronger, keeping in mind your diminished capacity to recover, there’s no reason you can’t hit some PRs.
Although this sort of thing does get mentioned from time to time, I think it gets lost among all the “lift to lose fat” stuff.
As for mobility and all that, it should be built into any good program, whether you’re bulking or cutting.
