Yeah, I know it’s just the #2, but its big to me.
Haven’t grip trained much this summer because of a thumb and wrist injury thats been nagging. Something told me tonight I should start back up, so grabbed the #1, did 5 reps to warm up, waited a minute and hit the #2. Felt the handles click and then grind slightly. Whooped and hollered for a minute and then tried it agin, got it shut but no grind. Considering I haven’t trained my hands hard for at least two months, to just pick it up and close for the first time EVER was quite cool.
Congrats, man. Nothing little about it. Considering most people can’t close the #1, it’s quite an accomplishment. If you get the #3, make sure you document it so they can add you to the list.
Way to go. The grippers tend to go in cycles with me. I closed the #2 a couple of months back and then couldn’t do it again for quite a while, then about a month ago I was able to close the #2 for 5 reps and the #1 for 40. I’m giving them a rest right now and training more with the Rolling Thunder as I am wanting to give the Inch dumbbell a try in a couple of months.
I’ve stayed pretty consistent on the grippers, max reps on the #1 is 15 reps straight. I’ve been at about 1/16" from shutting the #2 for most of this year, got it to an 1/8 the first time I picked it up. It seems like that last fraction of space is the hardest before you can click the handles and grind them shut.
I usually don’t rep out on any one gripper, warm up on the T and 1 and then do long holds and strap holds with a 5 lb. plate. Also do sledge hammer levering which I feel besides the obvious wrist stengthening, also helps my crushing grip, esp. hitting the pinky and ring fingers as part of the grip. Can strict lever a 12 lb. sledge, held out in front at arms length down to my nose and back, goal is a 20 of course.
keep up the good work. i just started recently and can only get the #2 to move about an inch so far, so i definitly see closing one as an accomplishment.
