Cleans Seperate From Jerks?

Hey I was wondering if it was better to do cleans seperate from the jerk. Reason being is that I can use more weight when I clean. So when I do clean and jerks the only part Im really struggling with alot is the jerk part. Would it make sense to do my sets of cleans, and then do push presses afterwards.

Thanks,

It all depends on what your goals are dude. Even olympic lifters do days where they just clean really heavy but, as coach says “I don’t care if you can clean it, if you can’t jerk it then that weight is useless.”

Granted rack jerks and heavy cleans are great workouts but, if your ultimate goal is o lifter, then do it apart to fix imperfections but, always remember that it is the Clean & Jerk not the Clean, rest go to the rack and then jerk.

Just my 2 cents.

i would prioritize the jerk and work that before cleans. push presses and jerks are not the same thing btw.

Well, if you’re gonna jerk it, you better clean it…sorry, wrong forum.

Is the difference between them the act of splitting?

no the difference is you reverse the order of hip lockout/arm lockout. pp you lockout hips before the arms. jerk you lockout arms before hips.

pushpress: the knees bend once, legs drive up to hip lockout, then the arms finish the lift to lockout.

jerk: the knees bend twice - once to start the drive, again to drop under the weight as you simultaneously press, lockout arms, and catch the weight over head. then you stand and lockout the hips. same idea whether you do split-jerks or push-jerks(no split).

you should work on the your technique and speed. usually the clean is the hard part. you should be stronger in the jerk than the push press.

Most failed lifts are failed on the Jerk imo.

You can do them separately. It’s always good to cycle exercises apart.

Do them like this for 6-8-10 week then do them together.

It does depend on your goals.

If your Cleans are strong, focus onthem less, maintain and do more Jerks, Power Jerks, Jerks from behind neck etc.
