Clean vs Bent Rows

Keith, thanks for the excellent description of proper bent row form. I have one question regarding head position. Should our head be held up, looking straight ahead, or should we be looking down towards the floor? Or does it not matter much?
Any insight you have is appreciated.

You know, I believe that the head should be in the “neutral position” and looking straight ahead as much as possible, but I also know that I often end up looking down at the floor-especially towards the end of a set. I would strive to look ahead as much as possible, but I am not sure its the most important checkpoint in this exercise.

I have taught the bent over row by putting a mug of water on the middle of the person’s back and having them do rows without spilling the water-this helps achieve the discipline of the ideal position.

Don…whatever the hell your name is…, that is the standard T-Nation sheeple answer I expected. DA and CT are not Gods, they don’t know everything, their admit themselves. Do you have such little faith in your own knowledge that you think all T-Nation readers are as uneducationed as you must be. Just because you can front squat doesn’t mean you can clean, or snatch.[/quote]

Learn my name.

Can’t admit you’re wrong, eh? You attacked flexibility, and the front squat illustrates flexibility? If you an informed competitive lifter, why don’t you outline what it takes to O-lift instead of having a pompous hissy fit?

DA and CT are bodybuilding and strength training coaches who utilize Olympic lifts; their own results and the results of their clients speak for the validity of their methods. I could be “uneductationed” or a “sheeple” (aside: how dare you try to chastise someone who can actually write) and still be able look at pictures and read stats that speak for themselves. Not being a self-important wannabe purist like yourself, I have perspective on my own lack of experience compared to those men.

It is absurd for you to think you could tell other people which lifts they can and can’t do. Shame on you.

Do you know my name yet?

And lest we forget…

Olympic lifts are FUN.

love both cleans and bent rows.

I also incorporate bent over delt rows as my primary anti-benching exercise.

Anybody have any tips on where the best places are to row to for the various muscles(e.g., to the belly button, to the collarbone, to the sternum, etc)?

I generally do my delt rows to my neck, in an attempt to decapitate myself

ok sorry for offending you or whatever i did crow. i just was asking because i can clean 200 but i row about the same too and i always thought that a clean should be way more.

Don’t apologize for another man’s rudeness, son. He was being a dick, and should be apologizing to you.

Keith,

Your post was awesome, I enjoy all of your articles. At least you provided useful information unlike our friend Crow has been on this thread, who seems to be just as annoying as his avian namesake, doing a lot of squawking without contributing anything useful!
