Clean Form Check

Hi, posting for advice/wisdom on my clean form. I live in South Australia where weightlifting coaches are as rare as the Tasmanian Tiger(i.e. thought to be extinct with alleged occasional sightings…) So I’m totally self taught, for better, or worse.

My thoughts are that A: I’m not fulling extending on the final pull, and B: the bar is getting a bit away from me before I sweep it back in to my thighs. thoughts?

Thanks. - Nick

Your bending at the elbow at the start of your pull, and bouncing the weight right above your knee.

Watch how his arms stay locked till the bar just about clears the knee. Then explodes thru the hips.

Onlooker: " K DIS IS 170 KILOS…"

Lifter: “BOOOOOP!! .Wuhh”

What just happened

I hate how guys like pyrros make this just seem absolutely effortless. I am dying with 200lbs and my form looks nothing like that.

You’re too jerky with the lift, it should be much smoother!! Do pulls where you intentionally make the pull one smooth lift!!

Thanks guys. I’m working on pulling smoothly with dead straight, relaxed arms, no jerk at the beginning of the pull off of the floor and extending properly. Will post another vid when I feel I’ve made good progress. Again, thanks for the advice.

You’re right; the bar is drifting away from you. Tighten your lats up, and try to sweep the bar in off the floor.

Nice job getting under the bar, though. That’s usually the toughest part for self-taught beginners. Your bottom position looks good, too. You got your elbows up fast, and maintained a vertical trunk.
