Yep. And zero philosophical progress is made.

This is true for most of the threads over here in PWI.
Either you are willing to work through tons of dirt to find the occasional nugget or you aren´t.

Evolution is an observable phenomenon. We just don’t know exactly how it happens. This is why we only have a theory. And even though it has happened, we can’t know that it will continue to happen, because we’re only making predictions based on what we’ve observed.

These are holes which religion can fill with hypotheses, not theories. Which is why putting religion in a science classroom is so funny.

To my knowledge, evolution has never been observed.

I do find it slightly ironic that when you get into higher level science it becomes more and more based on faith through the observation of indirect many times unmeasurable phenomenon.

Galapagos.

Finches.

Darwin.

Try googling these.
Just for the record I wasn’t arguing for or against anything. All of the stuff you mentioned were based on speculation. The Galapagos is thought to be a very good example of the result of evolution, but it has never been observed there.

Minor adaptation has been observed though normally within the range of existing genes in the particular species.

If science were to observe the divergence of a species at some point that would be observance of evolution. Our time window for scientific study is just so small at this point compared to the grand scheme of things.

If evolution is true though, it will be one of the only natural processes that tends toward the more complicate, which is kind of cool in itself and un-natural in a manner of speaking.

jusrockinout,

I was christian, now I’m a practicing atheist for almost 20 years.

There are many christians here, of all denominations; we also have Hindus, Muslims and of course a good number of Pastafarians.

I’ve had many discussions with them - mostly in the politics forum - which is my temple.

It sometimes gets quite heated, which is why people start making popcorn and sit back to watch the flame-war unfold whenever religion is brought up.

Welcome to T-Nation. If your body is your temple, you’re in the right place.

You left out the Jews and you didn’t mention Ebionites either.

I hate when they devolve into an evolution pissing contest.

When you say it doesn’t make sence to you, I just can not comprehend how it couldnt. Unless you believe in a ridiculus idea that we evolved from apes or dolphins or whatever, there has to be a greater being holding the strings.

Who made all this? two stars making a big bang theory? Well ask yourself this, who made the two stars to collide into each other? It doesnt make sence not to believe.

LMAO! HAHAHAHA. Yes, evolution is ridiculous and Santa is real too.

You’re either very ignorant or just intellectually challenged if you can’t tell the difference between a fictional piece of writing and fact.

Evolution as it pertains to the creation of man is not a fact. It is a theory.

Then so is gravity, electromagnetism and aerodynamics.

So you are religious as well?
INVICTUS
By WILLIAM ERNEST HENLEY (1849-1903)

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

You’re in luck! Gay scientists have isolated the christian gene!

British Conservative Party is even worse than the GOP. New Labour in a new suit, that’s about it.

To be technically correct, only micro-evolution is an observable phenomenon. We have never and likely will never witness any sort of macro-evolution.

Because macro evolution is next to impossible the way most creationists define it?
That wasn’t what I was getting at.

No, you can’t. The human life span is only about 100 years long if you’re really lucky. You can infer about it, but you can’t observe it directly because our window is too small. You can’t “see” it. That’s what I was saying. I’m not arguing for or against anything in this train wreck of a thread. I refuse to do that.

Hey, maybe if you use more laughably inane and outdated criticisms against evolutionary theory that will magically make your chosen book of fairy tales more plausible…

That’s hilarious. Hilariously old.

In how many threads will you make the same stupid post with the same stupid link.

You’re the idiot in the lime green leisure suit who tells the same joke at every party.

It was cute the first time. Give it a rest, or at least try and change up the delivery.

Guess the Shintoists, Animists, Druids, Taoists, Ancestor & Sun worshipers, and Norse/Grecian/Roman Gods worshipers are getting no love either /:wink:

Do you believe that our planet appeared out of nothingness? What do you believe?

Now if I have sex with christians, does that make me christian again?

I’m sorry - I apologise profusely for this insensitive omission. I have let down my family and the nation, and can only beg for forgiveness.

Dislaimer: And just to make sure, I’d like to include all Zoroastrians (never met one), Bahai (met one - as religions go quite appealing), Shintoists (met plenty, but I’d be careful not to call it non-sexist), Boen, Druids and Wiccans.

Disclaimer 2: I’d also like to exclude all the Jedis - give a it couple of hundred years and a few remakes and we can talk.

…why is it that to explain a mystery [existence], many resort to believing in an even bigger mystery [god]? That doesn’t explain anything, and seems rather redundant. Anyone?

What? I finally did something…appropriate??? Stop the press and notify the mods, tell them I’m in the corner and the spotlight apparently losing my inappropriate religion.

Had I known this link upset you so, I’d have posted it much more frequently. Not surprising that you find it upsetting though.

…also, I couldn’t help but take the setup.
