Good post. I am still at a loss as to how murders are getting blamed on steroids AT ALL.
this whole thing really got me thinking philosophically, and honestly the only answer i came up with is, i dont know what to think.
benoit was one of my favorite wrestlers. i had nothing but the deepest admiration for him - his work ethic was paralleled only by the absolute best in the business and he was probably the greatest actual WRESTLER still playing. not just that - he had absolutely no problems as most wrestlers do; the worst thing on his record was a DUI a few years back.
after hearing he choked his wife and SEVEN YEAR OLD SON to death, i was at a total loss. what should i think about him? i know most of you aren’t fans of wrestling and don’t have any kind of attachment to benoit, so think of someone you have nothing but the highest respect for - say your dad, a professor you were close to, a good friend of yours, etc. and just imagine him doing what benoit did.
how would you feel? could you really hate the person, even though he committed one of the most heinous crimes possible?
i’m just at a complete loss of words, thought, and emotion.
People of T-Nation, please don’t confuse WWE with all of pro wrestling. There are many brands of wrestling which are not all about storylines written for the 10 year old. That’s part of the ECW return, and also the attraction for other federations, like TNA and Ring of Honor. They showcase athletic ability much better than WWE does.

In what, communications?

There are plenty of pretty stupid girls. I’ve dated a lot of them.
I would feel like I would be easily capable of defending my hobbies.
But I digress. To sum up my thoughts I’ll leave you with a quote by Jeff Jarret:
“For those who don’t understand, no explanation will do. For those who do understand, no explanation is necessary.”
Congratulations on quoting an intelligent thought by a wrestler.
Too bad that intelligent thought is a minor modification on a saying that’s been around since fucking forever and is attributed to everyone from Jerry Lewis to some obscure existential philosopher.
Thank you for giving me further rationale to insult wrestling fans.

Wow, one of your intelligent outgoing friends is going to write spectacular storylines for the WWE (seasonally, at that!)!
No intern positions available at All My Children, I take it?
Yeah, John Cena is the next Warren Beaty.
The only way they’d be stupider than the storylines is if they were actually not people, but raccoons wearing fat redneck costumes. That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement.
I’m pretty sure it’s less the chair and more the oiling up of the body, the fake grappling and the outfits.

Hahaha. A market capitalization of just over a billion with 400 million in revenue isn’t an “entertainment juggernaut.” What the fuck are you talking about?

It’s not more complicated.
HE KILLED HIS WIFE AND HIS KID
What do you fucking people not understand?

They knew he killed his wife. Why is this surprising? He was sending text messages to his ‘friends.’ This isn’t JFK, there’s no conspiracy theory.

What you are is pathetic. A man on the TV killed his family and you’re equating it to your father doing it.
I’m going to give you a heads-up, just on the probably high chance Steve Austin does something: he’s been a wife beater for years. Everyone knows this. Prepare yourself for him killing someone in the next 5 years, okay? Emotionally, I mean, just brace yourself.

Do you realize that you are on a bodybuilding site?
Substitute the word ‘posing’ for ‘fake grappling’ and you have just described the sport that this site is about. T-Nation regularly features images of oiled up men wearing banana hammocks, yet we all still post here.

Does this mean every dude on T-Nation is gay?
Pwned like a n00b.
Maybe he’s just mad that the wrestlers are more functional.
In all reality, he’s probably just Maddox-ing with us. By which I mean, he doesn’t really get so worked up about wrasslin and its fans, but he’ll come on and insult people just for kicks and to see everyone get all offended by it.

Well, there is no touching in bodybuilding.
Not that I have any problem whatsoever with two big, strong, oiled-up men groping each other!
I’m pretty sure there are no bikini-clad hotties backstage at the Olympia applying posing oil and bronzer. It’s all man-on-man lotion rubbing.
I’ve also seen plenty of pics of extremely large spandex-clad men essentially spooning while spotting one another during a set of heavy squats. Not to mention all the face-to-ballsack quality time while spotting a guy on the benchpress.
There is plenty of homoeroticism in the bodybuilding world. Of course, since most of us are involved in that world we choose to ignore it, but people who live in glass houses should not be throwing stones.

While I might agree with your sentiments, here you are, goofing around on an Internet message board - arguing with the same people you look down upon.
Neither you nor I (who both waste way too much time here) have any room to criticize pro wrestling fans. It’s not like reading these forums is anything other than goofing off. Most of the smart posters have dropped off, so most of the stuff here is cotton candy for the mind.

Although this IS, in part, a bodybuilding site, most of the material is geared towards just that - building up our bodies. NOT competing. There aren’t many articles out there discussing contest prep, there aren’t many people here who compete, and there aren’t very many threads discussing which banana hammock is most flattering towards biceps peak.
I dare say that actual, competitive bodybuilders are, by far, a minority on this site.
As for the PI’s…though I can respect the effort that these people go into building their physiques, I admit I usually just hold out for Fridays.

There’s no scripts, no predetermined winner, no action figures…

It isn’t really the same.
Don’t bodybuilders perform choreographed routines? and get awarded shiny action figures?
Besides, the whole “men grappling with each other”… if you actually look at the amount of physical contact between two professional wrestlers in a wrestling match and two olympic wrestlers, or even an MMA match with a majority of groundfighting… people in the real sports have a lot more touching going on. So if you’re going to insinuate that pro wrestlers are gay because they “rub up against each other”, just compare the amount of rubbing in a BJJ match.
Choreographed posing routines are fairly script-like. As far as there being no predetermined winner, I suspect a lot of folks will disagree with you. Joe Weider was always suspected of rigging results of the Olympia.

Watch it, I made a joking post about bodybuilding being “fake” in another thread and it got deleted… go figure.
The long and the short of this story is that its just too bad that he actually did die…someone that would do something like this deserves to suffer, and not be allowed to take the easy way out.
That wikipedia post really has me wondering. Did he tell someone what he did before he offed himself? Or are the police blowing the whole investigation and this was a triple murder and one of the killers had a big mouth? Or as the poster said later was it a huge coincidence? I really can’t see it being the third, someone doesn’t come to work do you assume its because his wife died?
I’m not saying he didn’t do it, I’m just saying its very strange that someone made that post 14hrs before the bodies were found when supposidly no one knew what had happened yet. I really hope the police are looking at this objectively and not just assuming because they found steriods and he was a wrestler. Also they have said he used the cable of one of his weight machines and 240lbs of weight to hang himself, I’m 6’ 230lbs myself and I can’t picture how I would hold 240lb with one hand and wrap the cable around my neck with the other before letting go and finishing myself. Again not saying it didn’t happen I just can’t picture it.
I guess I’m just a former wrestling fan that remembers watching him when I was younger and having a hard time believing that a man everyone has said was a great family man could go home and just off his family. Especially when the people who had seen him hours before said he was acting totally normal and very nice…
I think it’s notable that somebody making $592,000 a year couldn’t afford a nanny to raise the kid, or for some reason thought it best not to hire one.
So the bit about the wife arguing with him about not spending more time at home is more about his lifestyle. She was probably blackmailing him about his lifestyle and alimony, he didn’t intend to kill her but did, realized he was fucked so he tidied up a bit. Just as messy from his end of things as our end. TRAGEDY. TRAGEDY.

How did you manage to blame the wife for this?
Maybe he was just fucked in the head and went off.
