Chest Fat - Appt w/ Doctor, Advice?

Hi Guys,

I’ve had chest fat for basically my whole life, I think it really started when I must have been around 10 or 12 years old. I was always an obese kid. I was obese right up until I got to college, where I weighed 240 lbs (I’m a male, 5’8", now I’m 28 years old). I made a decision at that point to change my whole life, mainly to meet girls and not be someone people pointed at in disgust.

Over the course of around 2 years, I lost around 80 pounds of weight, at one point I was around 155, although I did that the wrong way, I was all bones and some fat in the end. Still, what really bothered me forever was fat on my chest that never completely went away. It definitely reduced ALOT, but it never went flat. I decided at that point to begin weight training.

Several years later now, I have some muscle, I’m at around 16-17% body fat right now at 175 (I’m in a cutting phase right now).

If you looked at me with my gym clothes, you’d say that guy has some muscle and seems pretty fit, however my chest and lower stomach still has fat, although much reduced, it looks much much worse because my nipples are quite large in diameter (although oddly enough when I just come out of the shower they shrink to half their size and when that happens, my chest looks oddly almost normal).

My nipples don’t stick out. When I press down on my fat, it feels really soft and fatty, I can’t feel any disk or anything like that. I decided this week that I need help, so I decided to schedule an appointment with my doctor and confront him about it.

I am hoping and praying for an alternative to surgery. I’m actually hoping he’ll let me try some nolvadex or arimidex after showing him my chest. Some people say it only works for people who just developed gyno from steriods, but I’m interested in trying it anyway to see if I get some benefit from it as aromatization might be my problem.

I’m going to ask him to do tests for testosterone, estradiol and I will tell him “anything else that’s related”. I was thinking of just going to him and telling him straight off that I want a referral to an endocrinologist, but I’m not sure if that would go well with him.

Anyway, I guess I’m here asking if anyone has any advice on questions I should ask my doctor tomorrow morning or any advice on how I should go about trying to get this prescription for an aromatase inhibitor. Any advice in general would be appreciated.

If anyone can recommend good doctors in NYC that are not your run of the mill doctor, I’d appreciate that too.

Thanks in advance,
James

Go to the T-Cell Alpha forum. There is a thread titled You’ve got male… titties. Not an uncommon problem, you can’t post on that forum. But if you need questions asked PM the poster.

I know what you are going thru. My story was much the same, I was considered obese in my pre teens.I always thought my breasts were to large and lower belly to. I was 185 lbs with about 10% or less BF when I was in my early 20s.

But now when I look back on the pictures of those days I realize that I was just way too sensitive about the way I looked… I only wish I could get back to look now, So something for you to consider is the possibility that your perception of the way you look may be clouded by your early childhood.

Hey,

Check out page two of this article and scroll down. You might have a zinc deficiency.

Hope that helps,

That’s exactly what my doctor said when I met him. He told me that yes, I do have large nipples and gynecomastia, but he told me that I am fine and that people will accept me anyway. He said it’s alot about just being self conscious and overcoming that.

Thanks for your reply.

I would not look to any drugs.

Get your BF down to the point you can see your abs and reassess.

There are some threads by Poliquin and others about things like rev-z and other things to do or take.

If you aren’t willing to cut down properly, get the surgery.

oh yeah, have your doc send you for blood work to see what your test and estrogen numbers are. there is an article on this site that tells you what to get checked.

you sound like me. well, i wasnt quite as large as you, but close. im 6’ at 215lbs currently. People are always commenting me on being a muscular guy and looking very athletic so its not like im just an out-of-shape peice of shit who has man tits. even when i cut down to 185lbs i still had some embarrassing chest fat. people tell me that i’m way too oversensitive about it, but it bothers me so i plan on doing something about it. you could get surgery but its gonna cost you about $5000, as i’ve looked into that option already.

I’m convinced that this problem is a hormonal thing. Get your hormones checked and go from there. Don’t let anybody belittle you about it and say you’re making a big deal over nothing. If its something that really bothers you, do what you can to try and correct the problem.

Personally, I don’t go to doctors for psychological advice. If a doctor told me that sort of thing after he had done a full hormonal panel, I’d cut him some slack. If he told me that without having done a full blood workup, I’d know he was blowing smoke up my ass and trying to pass it off as medical advice.

Strongly suggest hormone panel. Proper approaches to hormone rebalancing can work wonders. Do not believe all the Poliquin stuff promoted on this site, as it is not so expensive to get your own “real” tests done, you do NOT need a Dr. scrip at quite a few labs these days. I am not saying Poliquin doesn’t have good ideas, but when I got my blood work done, it does NOT correlate to the Biosignature. With the tests there is no need to “guess” and perhaps “guess wrong”.

I have seen amazing results already since having this done and implementing the proper (Dr. recommended) remediation. I would also comment, that my fat problem in this area (chest, underarm) diminished greatly when i got bf levels from around 17% down to around 12%–big diff. noticeable).

James–did you see the Doc? What did he advise??
