Charles Darwin Film 'Too Controversial for Religious America'

You may very well be correct. I apologize if I come across as ignorant or misinformed. I evidently have more research to do before I refute every one of these ideas.

I just don’t understand how people can think that evolution isn’t faith- based.

Lol - Yeah so culturally successful that you have the highest crime rates in the world and also the fatest population in the world. What a culture!!! Mc DOnalds and gangbanging!

Not that alll of America and americans are like that obviously im grossley generalising, but i wouldnt be too proud of your great culture.

Also most Americans find it hard to position Europe or Australia on a map. If you asked them either of those questions yuo just put out, you would probably get a blank stare and loooong silence. here watch this:

i did search for stupid europeans but nothing came up, infact if you type “stupid europeans” in youtube all you gett is stuff about americans.

Not that all americans are stupid…

And congratulations. You’ve discovered the power of editing.

Have I??? Where did i edit???
I meant in the videos. It wouldn’t be hard to shoot a video for youtube demonstrating that all the Americans on the street are 5’5 and have AIDS.

Ohhhhhhhhh… so slow… you mean they didnt bother to put the ones that knew the answers in it??? Possible.

It’s not faith based because it’s all been empirically supported. Just do the research through the appropriate means (seek out scientific journals, for example). Evolution and Religion can coexist. However, this mutually exclusive view held by many should have died off a long time ago.

Yeah, lol, i got that about 2mins too late. I said several times in my post that i am sure that not all americans are that dumb. There are stupid people everywhere!

The first vid wasnt shot for youtube, it was on the Australian news, and in the other one even the Americans thought the americans were stupid.

Genetics anyone? Natural selection? The rest of the academic world accepts evolution and it has been taken so much further than is being discussed here.

But sorry, all the progression in genetics and biology have to be laid down… in favour of people popping out of nowhere.
They say god created everything, that everything needs a creator… so then who created god? He was always there duhh!

Stop LOL at people and make a valid point. Your posts mean nothing.

Presuming you are a devout follower of the bible, how do you explain fossils, the unnecessary parts of the human body, radio dating, the fact that we can observe micro evolution, poorly designed animals, not even getting into the moral issues.

I don’t claim to know all the answers. But I know that there are a lot of missing fossils. Radio dating has been largely disproven. Radio dating tests how old rocks are given the influence of radiation on them.

A few years ago scientists “radio-dated” some newly formed rocks from mt. st. helens, and according to their findings the rocks had “been on the earth for nearly 2.8 million years” which immediately was found to be ridiculous as the rocks had just been formed. Poorly designed animals? According to evolution, shouldn’t these have died off by now anyway ?
Someone raised the point that if god created animals then why do whales and dolphins have to come up for air? Why do ostriches have wings?

Evolution answers so many questions so well, has continually proven reliable and is based on facts and logical conclusions.

You say that without god there is no one to hold us responsible? Are you saying that if you went out to commit a murder it would otherwise go unavenged?

And now you are discounting all forms of radio dating? The plot thickens…

lol

Well if you can step back and view the BIG picture - let me paint it for you.

Religions were formed because of the COLLECTIVE EFFERVESCENSE phenomenon. We, as social creatures, generate even more energy in densely populated ritual gatherings (think a football game or early humans attacking an elephant for food)

People do things that they would never do in reality (Girls Gone Wild) This is the raw material that was harnessed and manifested and its physical manisfestation was God. Gods are the perfected reflections of society mirrored back to them.

Humans, you!!! draws power from collective effervescense and the group. THUS YOU TAKE PART IN COLLECTIVE EFFERVESCENSE (WHAT RELIGIONS ARE) EVERY WAKING MOMENT!!! STOP ARGUING ABOUT WETHER YOUR WAY IS CORRECT THEYRE ALL CORRECT BECAUSE THEY ALL REACH THE SAME GOAL!!!

America is an anomoly in the face that we have had an incline of religion while Europeans have had a steady decline. Today’s world (modernity) has made people less social, timid, and emotionally uninvested in those around us. Because of this, religions (collective effervescense) is decreased. Europeans and Americans alike dont need God (the group) anymore because society gives us ALL WE NEED.

Did you make the clothes you wear?
did you hunt for food?
did you build your own house?

Your government did, we are less social creatures, we don’t need to feel a part of the whole like our ancestors, we don’t need Gods anymore. Your government is your God now. It will feed you, tell you everything is all right and make that crappy job your altar.

Apparently you have absolutely no comprehension on how SLOW evolution is…

I’m assuming you are talking about rocks formed by lava? 2.8 million years is actually very ‘recently formed’. And, as far as I know, lava doesn’t change its chemical properties, it just cools down.

It kind of sounds like you made that shit up.

The fact that you say carbon dating has been widely ‘disproven’ (which, by the way isn’t a word), is all I needed to know about you.

Apparently people don’t get how rare it is to have fossils form at all, never mind “transitional” fossils.

Also, don’t play the “I don’t claim to know all the answers” card, that’s PRECISELY what religion claims to do.

Evolution is real. Just look at the case of penicillin. Penicillin is an antibiotic that attacks a particular cell wall enzyme in bad bacteria. Within a FEW YEARS of penicillin’s introduction to the medical community, the first strains of penicillin-resistant S. aureus came about.

They have a survival advantage because they naturally produce an enzyme – penicillinase – that destroys the ring structure of penicillin. Within a decade, the effectiveness of hospital-acquired staph infections was basically annulled by plasmid epidemics, that then spread the penicillinase gene through the entire species of S. aureus.

This is evolution in action people…

I accept that evolution is the only scientific attempt to account for living things.

However, at least some of the commonly cited evidences are either not equals or are downright dated. So some of the stuff that gets passed off as evidence in textbooks is pretty flimsy.

When it comes down to it, the best evidence is pretty much the progressive changing of the fossils throughout the geological layers, the ‘universality’ of the genetic code (and some similar stuff) as well as the facts of inheritance and mutation.

By the way, Darwin denounced evolution on his deathbed. But that’s apparently all hush hush.
That was a complete fabrication created by Darwin’s opponents. Also, even if that was true, how would that change evolutionary theory now? The theory of evolution is not a religion with Darwin as its prophet but a scientific explanation that many have tested and contributed to.

Lol.

Seriously though, when God is brought into any equation people resort to their defense mechanisms. People don’t like having accountability for their actions.
So you’re arguing that people who accept the theory of evolution do so because they want to steal, rape and kill with impunity? Are you serious?

www.talkorigins.org/ is a good site for the layman. Wikipedia also has an alright entry on evolution if you are just getting your feet wet with basic biology.
I just don’t understand how people can think that evolution isn’t faith- based.
Because it is not faith-based but based on evidence and fact.
