halfway through all this, a young guy comes up and says hi, and call me by name. Who is he?? Then it hits me, he’s one of my students! He looks at the bar and says “That’s a lot of weight!” (He’s a pretty skinny guy) I say “Thanks”.

good luck with your tests!

Thanks, Goat!

Okay. So after this cycle lasting a couple months, checking my max lifts:

Squat (scoliosis stance)
95 lbs x 1
115 x 1
135 x 1
155 x 1
175 x 1
185 x 1 did I reach parallel? maybe
190 x 1 barely got to parallel, hell I’ll count it

Bench
65 lbs x 1
95 x 1
115 x 1
135 x 1
145 x 1 JESUS this was a grinder, glad I got a spot on it, barely got it up at all

Worn out. Was really expecting to get 150 on bench, but just cannot get strength on it to save my life.

The lifting platforms were busy, didn’t want to wait to do deads, just went home.

Been lifting for over 45 years, since I was 18. Took about 10 years to bench 95, another 10 to bench 115, another 10 to bench 135. It’s a slow process.

Tested deads today.

135 lbs x 1
165 x 1
195 x 1
225 x 1
245 x NONE couldn’t get it off the floor
235 x 1 grinder

So. For this cycle lasting almost 3 months, no change to deadlift. Tiny improvement to bench of 5 lbs and tiny to squat of about 10 lbs. In my entire adult life, it’s always been painfully slow.

Do you like hex deads?

Love 'em. Doing regular deads because gym only has one hex bar which is always being used, and also working to see about competing in powerlifting.

I would encourage you to compete. It’s a great way to challenge yourself and give you some purpose.
