Cauliflower Ear Advice

After weeks of wrestling with a growing califlower ear I had it pop on the mat. The thing hurt like a son of a gun, but I was still not going to have it bolstered sine it seems to me its a thing of honor. But my parents have made me have it bolstered after that painful ordeal it has not properly healed. But flattened out from its previous state of a pertruding mass on the edge of hardening.

The surgeon has told me he will need to operate once more with multiple bolsters for my ear to ever look half way normal again. I am against the surgery and would just rather leave my war scar. Do you think it would be best to have it taken care of once and for all and try to get rid of the lack luster appeal of a cali ear. Or keep it and let it serve as a reminder and a trophey forever to my high school glory days.

I think it looks cool, but that’s just me…

how old are you? before my brother left for boot camp, I gave myself a smiley from hell, and it’s now a pretty big, ugly looking scar. I’m kinda embarrassed to have my shirt off now because of it. so do you really think you want a big ugly scar on the side of your head for the rest of your life? girls won’t look at that as a “war scar”

This has got to be a joke… Yes, girls will want to slobber your balls when they see your ear!

I know what you mean by battle scar, but you really don’t want to deal with that shit.

Get it taken care of if you can… wrestler friends of mine have had to have their ears drained constantly because of it, and if it pops again somehow it’s disgusting.

thanks for all the advice and theta letting me know I must now walk with my ear as close to girls as possible for an awesome day. I’m 17 been wrestling since I was wee little never had a problem with it until my high school years. I was draining it with my grandpa’s insulin needles for awhile but it kept re filling with blood every practice bigger then before. But I dont’ want an ugly scar the rest of my life as you said, so I’ll take your advice and have the operation. The main thing perhaps bugging me is all the time off the mat that this is causing. Either way thanks again.

Question: where’s your head gear? Hell my coach would bring extra to practice so this exact thing wouldn’t happen.

Call us pussies if you want, but at least we didn’t miss a practice to get our ears operated on.

Sorry I forgot to answer the question at hand. I would get it taken care of, no girl wants to see that shit.

we are supposed to wear headgear which ignorantly I didn’t wear. But I try not to do muscle moves or force my way out of holds. So I really figured my ear wasn’t under much stress. But during a live match I will do anything possible to win and after big tournaments it started forming even with headgear.

Not sure how much wrestling you have left but I really liked this headgear

Headgear is essential man. Keep it clean and your ears will thank you.

Get it treated. If you really want that look, you can always get it later when you’re sure.

Friend, my advice is to get it operated.

Even if you don’t change your opinion about the appearance of the ear after 20 years, think about all the little nuisances it will cause. It can affect your hearing (because of the minimized diameter of the ear cavity), it doesn’t go well with suits, it can prevent you from wearing headphones…

Perichondral hematoma isn’t severe hip fracture, you’ll be back to training soon enough (to compensate with some hard work).

Girls like it!

Anyway- the trick is taking care of it whilst the blood is still moving around in the ear, before it calcifies and goes hard.

Take a lump of vaseline/petroleum jelly and place it on the cauliflowered bit. Pinch it between your thumb and forefinger, then rub in circles for about 10minutes. Keep doing that every day until it goes away.

I had the surgery and it does fuck all. mine blew straight back up again.

more good advice thanks. Its a fore gone conclustion that I must have surgery now for the second time on the ear. Because as hooker #1 said it blows right back up. Tomorrow six a.m. I had never heard of the jelly and vasoline thing I’ll try it when it comes back I’m sure it will.

And your right about the headgear it is necassary, just part of growing up I guess have to learn that your not invincible. Along with girls liking it, that is a positive but having my hearing damaged is not worth getting more pussy.

DD just dealt with a whole cauliflower ordeal in her log, there’s some interesting info in there now. http://www.T-Nation.com/free_online_forum/sports_women_training_performance_sorority/velocity_diet_journal_12_jan?id=1890266&pageNo=43

I had it when I was 17 (from wrestling, I wore head gear but it was too small for my huge head). I got it fixed even though I thought it was cool as hell at the time.

It’s ten years later and I can see it clearer now. Girls do not think its hot, people are fucking with you. Most people will think you have some sort of disease or deformity not a “battle scar”.

One of the BJJ black belt commandments from Gracie Magazine: “Thou shalt not make a trophy of thy mangled ears.”

After you drain it the squeezing of the area encourages the skin to re-adhere to the tissue underneath and hopefully prevent the pocket from filling with fluid again.

Dude get it taken care of.
It does not take allot for ears to get bad.
and it does’nt go away.

I wore the headgear all the time.
even in college, even after college.
even to greco practice, matches etc.
yes I had to eat shit ,no one that does greco wears them.
but my ears are better then If I did not wear them

I still had to get them drained a few times.

Mine dont look bad, but one has issues
I need two different sized ear buds
if I use head phones.
when I buy glasses/sun glasses I need to have them adjusted.
the one that is jacked up… gets frozen
and turns grey in the cold.

and I get tinnitus (ears ringing) in that same ear.

good stuff to look forward to.

At one time I had to wrap them, pack them at night with a clothes pin , ice them.
pad them with cotton and tape for practice/
matches/gigs.
and mine are not bad.

good luck

How could a girl not fall in love with this?

lmao thanks for all the good posts and good advice. I wish I had pictures from the beggining to end that I could post here but there all on my mom’s family camera…I had the operation for a second time this time he was much more aggressive with the bolsters.

There is alot of pain for atleast the first 48 hours but that is what vicadin is for and that shit works miracles. I have to wear some goofy helmet to make sure the skin re attaches but from this expercience I"ve learned the importance of headgear and the helpfulness of plastic surgery.
