Casual Shoes?

This may be a stupid post, but I figure we ask each other a lot of odd questions on here, so why not…

In the past, I’ve always had a pair or two of black sketchers laying around. Nothing fancy, just big blocky soles, casual looking to wear out with jeans and a polo shirt… but every time, after a few months, the heel begins to separate. So I was thinking of picking up a pair of Doc Martins. I looked at a few online, and while I don’t need anything boot-like, or flashy, I was wondering if they hold up better than the obviously more inexpensive sketchers. Anyone?

I wander around in Chucks usually.

(sometimes I wear pants too)

Try Ecco or Bjorn. Docs are overhyped and uncomfortable, especially if you have a medium/high arch.

I have a pair of the Doc’s and I like them. However nothing can compare with my Van’s!

I’ve owned six pairs of Eccos. Bjorn shoes look awesome but I haven’t tried.

Ecco shoes are probably the most comfortable I’ve ever worn, and the leather is high quality; I think they actually provide the leather for BMW interiors.

They are expensive, though, hence why I did not first recommend them. You said you were looking for something around the price range of your Sketchers. Have you looked at Zappos.com ?

(mods: I hope that was ok to post as it is not a supplement site)

Stu,

This probably isn’t going to light your fire, but Aussie made Redback boots, with steel caps are great for roaming around or going out casual I reckon.

They buff up nice and shiny, slip on and off easily and the steel toe comes in handy more often than not.

Go the soft toe option if you prefer or the lace up type too.

Similar brand is the Blundstone boot but I believe it’s no longer made in Australia, instead they’ve moved it offshore to Korea or China I think.

Not too expensive either. Check out eBay.

Thanks guys, gonna check a few of those online.

I think Doc’s are indestructible. No joke.

Born shoes are nice and they seem to hold up very well. My bf got a pair about a year and a half ago and proabably still wears them just about every day. They run around $100, but sometimes you can find some good deals in department stores. I think his were about $60 on sale.

Sketchers… Shudder

K-swiss for me… plaine white matches with most things, or occassionally makes you look like a nurse (which sucks). I beat the shit out of my Kswiss for at least a year and a half. Had I actually taken the time to clean em, and work on em a bit they would look close to new still.

Yeah, my husband has had a pair he has worn regularly for four years. They were over $100 but they still look great and the sole has held up just fine.

I also forgot to mention Keen. He got a pair last year and loves them, says they’re very comfortable. He used to have foot pain because he needs arch support, so if you have high arches Keen might be a good shoe. They’re also lighter and more casual looking than the Bjorns, and in general less pricey.

Chucks are my staple footwear, both for lifting and just walking around, but I also have a pair of Docs that I’ve had for years. I put then through hell in college and they’re still in great condition. A lot of people joke about them being indestructible, but it’s very true.

I am disappointed in you. The Mak I used to hear about never wore pants.

I only wear 'em at work. Even then it’s a bit iffy.

Speak for yourself.

Chucks, Frees, sandals, and a nice pair of ass kicking boots. What else do you need?

This is why we could never work.
