Carbs for Skinny Veggie Guy

25 yr old, 177lbs. Will be using 5/3/1 to gain strength + size. conditioning 3X a week (about 20 mins each of sandbag carries, farmers, beating tyre with sledgehammer in a medley format)

Diet: vegetarian (no meat, eggs, fish). Oats, bronww rice, cottage cheese, milk, tofu, potatoes, veggies, flaxseed oil, olive oil, various nuts, various beans, whey. Consumee 35-45g protein per meal (6 per day). Eating a surplus of calories hasnt ever been a problem for me, i’ve a pretty big apetite, i know to eat often, a lot of protein and so forth, my only queestion was about carbs.

Most of my protein sources also have carbs, i could eat more calories (GOMAD?) but i dont know whether the big excess in carbs will just get stored as fat. Having a bit of extra fat isn’t a huge problem in terms of looks, i just don’t want them to make me struggle even more on dips or chins, increasing those is a big goal for me, or to let the fat gain be greater than any muscle gain.

should i be worrying over carbs when i’m still very small? If i can grow without adding a lot of fat i’d prefer it, i’ve already got a bit of a podge as it is. Or perhaps try to cut back on them (eat more tofu?)

Cottage cheese is your new best friend.

Gaining strength is going to be hard being a lacto-vegetarian, you are going to need those carbs and some well thought out peri-workout nutrition.

So don’t worry too much about them now, if you gain too much fat your can change the carb content in the future; for now just eat them.

Best of luck.
