Carbs for Recovery

I’m new in the States (San Francisco), and I can’t seem to find any forms of simple, fast carbs to mix in my after-workout shake.

I guess I’m looking for any kind of glucose, dextrose or maltodextrine powder. Anything with a G.I. of 100 or higher.

Does anyone know if this can be found anywhere on this continent of continents?

Thanks

Gatorade/Powerade/Energade.

You could always try some Surge which you can buy on this site - which would be a better option.

Pick up & read “Optimum muscle performance and recovery” Great book. Although it seems to be geared toward endurance athletes. It has its use and place for strength training.

Thanks
But I’m looking for pure dextrose (or similar) powder. Is it to be found anywhere at all in the states? In Europe it’s both cheap and easy to find everywhere since it is so vital in terms of optimal recovery.

Try “Carbo Gain”, probably find it in a health food store near you.

DescriptionNOW? Carbo Gain is a 100% pure complex carbohydrate supplement derived from maltodextrin, an easily digestible blend of complex carbohydrates from corn starch. Maltodextrin contains “glucose polymers”, linked sugar compounds that are easier for the body to assimilate and use. Glucose polymers are metabolized at a slow, steady rate that can help to sustain energy levels during endurance-oriented workouts and/or athletic events and support weight gain. Carbo Gain contains virtually no protein, fat or fiber and is a convenient source of energy for active individuals.*

Whats wrong with sugar?

Go to BBulk Barn.

Table sugar is sucrose, which, for various biochemical reasons, is not an ideal post-workout carbohydrate.

NOW Sports makes Carbo Gain (its just maltodextrin with a fancy name), and NOW Foods also sells 2lb bags of Dextrose (glucose). They are both made from corn, and you can find them on most nutrition or supplement websites. Unfortunately, I have never seen them in any stores. I have used them for the past year (up until Surge got cheaper!), and was happy with the price and quality.

did you do a google search? You can find endless vendors for what you seek.

Do you have a homebrewing shop near you? I just bought a 4lb bag of corn sugar (dextrose) and a couple 1 lb bags of maltodextrin for $4 and $1.39 each, respectively.

Dextrose is used for priming your beer, and maltodextrin is used to add viscosity to the wort and increase the smoothness of low wort beers.

Isn’t it wonderful when your hobbies cross over?

You can find it on bb.com for a few bucks and also try looking for corn sugar instead of dextrose and you may have an easier time finding it.
Shouldn’t be too hard.

Thanks a lot for the help.

I went for the Carbo Gain, but I realize now that there are cheaper options out there.
