Carbohydrate Sources

I have been eating oatmeal for breakfast and pre-workout everyday for over 2 years. In light of a few articles I have recently read, I’d like to change my carb source at these times.

CT seems to advocate a cup of blueberries as one such source. I’m not sure how much they cost elsewhere, but in Australia they’re $50 for a week’s supply - a price far exceeding what I can afford as a poor student.

What does everybody else consume at these times?

Btw, the rest of my carbs throughout the day are vegetables (except post-workout, which is dextrose/maltodextrin), so I generally try to make these two meals quite high in carbs - i.e. no less than 60g.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Frozen Berries are cheaper.

Whats a week’s supply? I have 100g of berries @ breakie each day.

500g boxes cost (worst case) AUD$8. On special home-brand stuff might be $5.

Last week I got 'em for $7 a box (Coles has thier own branded berries now). WoooHoo!

If oatmeal isn’t causing you any problems why switch?

I think beer is probably my favorite source of carbs. Kinda sucks PWO though…

At Woolworths, they were $7.xx for 1 cup. I’ll check out the frozen varieties. Thanks!

It seems that problems may develop without you being fully aware of them if you contunually eat the same food. Even if this isn’t the case, though, I am just sick of oatmeal and need a change.

Yeah, frozen is the way to go for us poor students. Vegies or fruit, if possible I buy it as it tends to be snap frozen and end up fresher than the stuff in the ‘fresh produce’ section. + it’s cheaper.

when i’m trying to get more carbs i always up the amount of fruit i eat.

even on my carb-up day i don’t really ever eat a lot of breads or oats. i stick with more berries, bananas, apples, oranges, and basically any fruit.
