Also, my analysis was for 3/4 ton or 1 ton rigs. I think a smaller german diesel would make sense in an SUV, like in a Touareg, for example.

I love that diesel makes it for a more durable engine and that means less repairs also.

I just want to point out that more durable is not more reliable. Most trucks I’ve seen have lots of repairs which are much more expensive than car repairs.
That said I want a diesel as well.
That could be also due to shortage in mechanics who specially in diesel engines, no?
I would not be using my truck as heavily as someone who uses it for heavy towing so I think the diesel option would still hold better than the gas.
Cummins is developing an engine for the Nissan Titan:
Aren’t the UPS vans all Cummins engines?
I think they use the Cummins 4bt in the trucks. From what I’ve read, they aren’t that great for being 700lbs.
RE Nissan. That’s exactly what I’m looking for: Long lasting engine and one can easily carry motorcycles while getting 30mpg.

The Z was in poor shape. It was probably an even trade.
Texted my buddy last night and he has yet to do anything to it. Said he still planned on making it bad-assed.
Maybe I’ll buy it back before he gets started.
Ok, here is my idea:
Buy back.
Get a cheap Chevy V8 engine ( Bill says you might be able to get a Camaro engine with 300 hp out of a junk yard ).
Put the money saved from above into some good, and here we go, OFF ROAD tires.
And go off road with that small car and powerful engine into that desert like sand and fish tail twirl that car until you create a tornado.
Earn the nickname: The Tasmanian Devil of Montana.
I rented a diesel engine Fiat sedan while going back to Italy to visit family. I drove a shit ton, probably 1100 miles on 2 tanks of gas, I could not believe how far I went on such little gas.
There is something beautifully unnerving about being able to drive 140 mph and have a freeway cop give you a thumbs up.

Same here.
Plus my paddle boards.

Been done already!
My husband found these.

Datsun rally.

Now I totally want to do this…

Yup, that is cool. That V-10 in the touareg is bad ass and so is its all-wheel drive system. But obviously, when the tires are smoking its all about traction. Put some better tires on that chevy for pavement and some weight in the bed and its a whole different ballgame.

upgrade the software on the V10 tdi for $750 and you get 370HP / 625 LB-TQ
I went to find pictures of the New Lancia Stratos, which had seemed an absolutely excellent car. They actually, it seemed to me, greatly improved on the Ferrari 430 which was its starting point, but constructed really into a new car by Pininfarina, according to the design of the German enthusiast who had styled it. It also represented a very large weight saving, as it weighs only 1247 kg dry.
And I was interested to see what was coming of the planned production run.
It turned out though that Ferrari had pulled a bitch move (in my interpretation anyway) and issued orders to Pininfarina preventing them from building any further examples of the car. And it is apparently infeasible to start again from scratch elsewhere. So there will be no more of these.
The Lancia is stunning.

You wouldn’t consider this one also?

This also came out pretty well in yellow:
