Car Love Thread

I want this fucking job, badly…

Are there not speed cameras all over England? I hear those are the worst thing since speed bumps.

Also, love the GTR, but i’d rather have the Porsche/Ferrari/NSX over it all day long. There is more to a driving experience than the lap times.

In England the population is not really targeted for breaking the speed limit: the revenue focuses on parking fines.

$120 for going over your paid parking meter even by a minute.

One can’t really drive fast in London because of traffic.
That is where most of the cameras are: and in the main streets of bigger cities.
The cameras also focus on red light violations.

I was just disappointed to learn that here the po po makes their money targeting speed limit violations:
I was looking forward to safely driving at 90 mph on the freeway without a care in the world.

I guess it makes sense the police would target speeding fines as a way to make revenue since American cars come with so much horse power and the country is so spacious.

It is a shame, though.

A $300 speeding ticket is “an assault weapon”.

I really don’t want to be hit with it.

As for Alfa Romeos, I think they would have been a better choice than he Fiat 500 for the US market.

I think you’ll find most people in the UK who are into cars or bikes would disagree with you on that! There are lots of cameras around now and they have mobile ones in vans. The police in the area I live even use helicopters to catch speeders.

I suppose it depends on what you are used to. I have heard the cops are much stricter in the USA on speeding. Whereas the Isle of Man (the TT and the Manx) is just a short ferry ride away and things like road rallying are stil legal here.

I drove regularly 15 miles over the speed limit and never had a problem nor lived in fear of getting caught.
On the highway in England I regularly had cars drive by on the outside lane that shook my vehicle as they passed me.
I have been here two years and I have never seen this. To start with no one respects the outside lane as the fastest lane.
You can have three cars on all three lanes going at 70 mph blocking everybody else that wants to overtake.[quote]

That was what I meant. When I started driving here the same way my husband warned me of it.
I also notice most people drive 5 to 10 miles UNDER the speed limit where I live.
It drives me insane.

All these powerful cars and everyone is crawling.

Out of interest, what is the speed limit in the USA? Does it vary from state to state?

70 mph in Florida.

35 - 40 in city with 25 on residential streets.

Bear in mind the roads here are lot wider.
The main streets in my city are like the highway in England.

The spaciousness here is fantastic!

One can safely drive 10 mph above the limit and keep the traffic flowing better.

If you have been to London, the streets were made for horse carriages.

A different driving experience.

When I arrived here I thought they had cars on steroids.
They all looked so big and wide.

Yes. It goes any where from 55 MPH (88 KMH) to 85 MPH (136 KMH) in Texas. Most over around 70 MPH (112 KMH).
There was a period of time where some roads in Montana had no limit. They changed that, but still Montana and Wyoming are so sparse, it’s carte blac for the most part. When I was there, I just kept it floored. We made it from Glacier National Park to West Yellowstone in just over 3 hours. Push can testify to how much ass we were hauling. It’s clear across the state, didn’t see a single cop.

True, but those cars are 3 times more expensive than the GTR. So for my money I would go for the Corvette Z06 Carbon series. It had all the suspension and brake goodies from the ZR1, but had ‘only’ the 505 HP Z06 motor. Actually, in some respects, having the less power with the beefed up suspension may make it even more drivable in a real sense.

ME WANT!
This is the limited edition Corvette 427. In short it’s a convertible z06 and it’s gorgeous. It’s only 136 lbs heavier than the Z06 and certainly there is a mild rigidity penalty, but who the fuck cares, look at it!
And this is what I love about America, fuck the flappy paddles. Give me a stick in my hand and let me make my own decisions.
I know the dual clutch trannys are pretty amazing in their own right and have the advantages of split second shifts but the control you get from rowing your own can never be replaced. Especially when controlling an maniacal V8.

This is my biggest beef with the Italians lately. Because the auto-shift manuals are technically better, they’ve all but abandoned a proper gear shift. That sucks. If I were rich enough to buy a Ferrari 458, I would order it with a 6 speed manual. Same with the Aventador. Sure the dual clutches may be faster, but they cannot be as satisfying as controlling that power with a proper manual.
God bless America! Our cars compete with theirs, cost less than half, and come with one transmission, a 6 one the floor.

I don’t give a shit what the 458 can do in the corners or how trackable it is, when you wear one out in a stop light drag race, the Ferrari owner will still be embarrassed. His car may be technically better, but he still lost.

Speaking of speed limits and shit like that I have a record that to my knowledge has never been broken. When I went to Montana with my buddy, we got to Bozeman, MT from Atlanta, GA in 33 hours flat. So no, we did not stop over night, we muscled through and saw an epic sun rise in Wyoming.

BEAT THAT!

No disrespect for the Vette. But i’m buying a 911 Turbo if i had the money.

The vette can do amazing things on the track, but it’s also the #1 old man - middle age crisis vehicle. Can’t stand going to the local cruise and seeing a million C5-C6 vettes with nothing but that retarded chrome rear diff. cover and a balding douche thinking he’s the shit. No thanks

1970 was the best year for Ford muscle cars in IMO. They killed the look of the Cougar in the years after that.

I’ve got a ‘74 Ranchero with a 351 Cleveland with an older set of 4V close chambered heads. It needs a lot of work but I love how Clevelands’ sound and run in the upper RPMs.

Property is expensive in the part of NJ where I’m at (less than 10 miles from Manhattan) but once I move some place more affordable, I’m going to have a whole yard of old Fords lol.

I’ve also always been a huge of fan of the Pantera which was built using Ford’s 351 Cleveland.

I love this car also.

This is a beautiful one!

When I arrived in the US it was the car I wanted to buy.
Then last year I discover the AMC Hornet by chance on Craigslist - there was one for sale in Tallahassee and I was considering it.

Just today I was thinking I should post a picture of the 280z.
You beat me to it.
