Can't Use Chalk in Your Gym?

Hey bro bring all the chalk you want over here

I won’t hold the “i respect myself too much” comment against you

metroflexplano

Take the bar and weights outside if it’s allowed? It’s what I did in the summer, it made the atmosphere so much better too.

Not sure if your up for it, but they do make chalk in different colors

the rule of no chalk is in place because too many inconsiderate people leave a mess behind for others to clean up.

you could try liquid chalk.

my gym has a no chalk rule, but I just go up to the person and ask them to please clean up after themselves
I never liked the chalk rule…I think it’s a marketing thing

…Do you know what marketing is?

Very much so…they have a “target market” and power lifters etc aren’t a part of it. There you go Artem ass
Banning something isn’t marketing unless they advertise “We don’t allow chalk.”
That “artem ass” thing was clever, if you’re referring to what I think you are.

Curves doesn’t advertise NO CHALK, but you ain’t doing no heavy lifting there because they have machines. It doesn’t need to be advertised to be so. and yes I was referring to what you thought I was.
no need for name calling.

Curves is female only so that’s not a good example.

Who cares what real marketing is…

I see your point and agree…the ‘fitness’ clubs appeal to just that…they don’t like bodybuilders and related training there.

funny thing is chalk could be just as useful to the ‘crossfit’ crowd. lol

I use resin in a no-chalk gym and have yet to be confronted about it; it’s good stuff.

The manager at my gym says it’s not in their policy to use chalk. However, their bars are super skinny, have next to no grip, warped, and REALLY need replacement. I said I would have to use chalk until they replaced the bars with thicker bars (anyone have input on lifting heavy with thick vs thin bars?).

Anyways, I started using chalk last week without being advised not to (yet). I make sure I don’t leave a mess behind just so I don’t draw attention. My advice is to not ask them if it’s “in their policy”. I’m sure some may not even care as long as you’re not sprinkling it around everywhere.

I used the chalk for my first time on deadlifts today (I’ve been using straps prior). I lifted 405 for 6 reps, but realized one of my calluses tore right off. Should I have used more chalk? or could it be because the bars are crap/skinny?

Update: I should probably trim my calluses. Something that hasn’t really been a problem using straps before.

The Metolius Eco Ball does work pretty good. It works a lot better than liquid chalk IMO. Not quite as good as “real” chalk, but a close second, and 90% invisible.
