I’ve never actually found it to be a big issue and I’ve been a boxerbriefs guy for like… ever, so there really might be something to rrjc’s idea.
I find underarm chafing way worse, tried all diff types of deodorant and nothing seems to help. Never used to happen, assuming it’s either arm or lat size related, or both, but it sucks. Haven’t tried baby powder there yet though, that probably should’ve been common sense…
I’m starting to get this too, part of the issue is that the A-shirts I wear are starting to bind on my lats.
I find that most skin products are irritating, and I’ve got to make sure my underarms are clean. I’m using Tom’s of Maine deoderant, with a dusting of baking soda lately. Unscented Arm and Hammer has been OK in the past, though I found it stained shirts (especially black ones).
A lot of women will dust with a mix of cornstarch and baking soda. I haven’t tried this myself but it’s a thought.

Semi-related: what about shirts? I kinda chunked up for a while so I wasn’t too worried about wearing shirts that fit well (gotta hide the fatness) but I’m cutting down now and I’m finding that a lot of my t-shirts that fit me well/look good in the upper part of my torso (chest/shoulders area) are weird and drapey in the waist, and I still end up looking blocky and bad. The shirts I have that fit me well in the waist are skin tight higher up.
I’m sure dressing nicer and wearing shirts I could tuck in would help…but I’m still in college, and in Florida…so shorts and t-shirts are gonna be a staple for a while.
I got a few “athletic fit” shirts, but even those end up puffing out around my waist some. I’d like to find a shirt that just fits well everywhere…recommendations on brands/styles/anything? Or do you guys just have to try a lot of stuff on and hope you find something that fits right?
Just buy smaller shirts. Yeah, when I was carrying more bulk I found the same thing. I had to go down a size in shirts actually. You will eventually get to a point where the shirt is either a little loose on you or it is so tight in places it looks like you are showing off.
