People,
I was trying to drink a mix of casein/whey/Carbo Fuel (Twinlab)/Powerade during my workouts, and I experienced significant nausea and generally did not feel good. Because of this, my performance was poor. I felt like the drink is not getting down and remains in my throat. I would love to say my workouts are so intense I’m getting nauseous, but the intensity did not change compared to previous workouts. So, I feel that pre-workout and “during the workout” supplements are not for me. Anyone else feels like that? Any tricks? I tried to drink more water, but feel bloated and after the intense exercise was nauseous again.
What are your experiences?
Yuck, no wonder you get sick! Dude, cough up the dough and get some Surge. Taste very good. Mix half a serving with a liter of water and sip during training. Good taste and you know you’re getting the exact formula that works according to the studies. Man, I’m grossing out just thinking about that concoction of yours!
Well unlike TEK i dotn sip on Surge during my workout, but take it immediatly afterward.
My workout drink is Glutamine, Powdered Gatorade (not to strong). Sometimes ill sip on a Glutamine/Creatine mix. Try that and save the Protein shake afterwards. I know i could never drink anything thick like that while working out.
Newbie Man, I used to drink a terrible tasting, thick drink during workouts too…I would feel like puking, burp a lot, and generally feel sick. I now like to use Glutacene during my workouts, and Surge later on. The Glutacene is still sort of nasty, but doesn’t make me feel sick. Maybe this is because it’s thinner, who knows. Either way, since switching, my workouts have been much more productive, and much less nauseating.
Newbie, how concentrated is your drink? If it is too concentrated, it will tend to draw water into your digestive tract, thus increasing the chance of an upset stomach. Try diluting it with 2x as much water and see what happens. If it still makes you sick, drop some of the ingredients, one of them may not agree with you.
I probably should’ve stated that I did not think my shake was bad tasting (call me strange otherwise throwing up would happen FOR SURE.
Neither was it too thick. It was more of a feeling that my body is tight and aimed at lifting, and the shake was getting nowhere from my throat/esophagus. I honestly do not know if something better tasting would not have the same effect, but it looks like the classical scheme (no food during 1-1.5 hours before training) works best for me. Kinda sad, looking at all these references about huge gains that John Berardi listed, and knowing that this way is closed :-)))
Most people consume their meals(or MRPS) prior to or shortly after their workouts…I know I do. You should just be using the “Carbo fuel” or whatever and the Powerade during your workout. But I could be wrong.
The reason you feel nautious is prob due to the casien which is digesting SLOOOOWLY. The recomendation if you are gonna have a during workout drink it for hydro whey or aminos which pretty much is predigested.
Dilute Surge (at least 1 liter per scoop). This is easily drinkable and tastes really good. I take small sips throughout the workout and if I need to take larger gulps, I just add more water to the mix. Surge still tastes great diluted (even up to 2L for 1 scoop) and it digests very quickly and does not bog down the stomach.
