Second semester took a toll on me. Stopped going to the gym entirely, relaxed my eating restrictions. No progress was made over the past four months.
I’m currently 5’10", 220lbs, with one continuous year’s lifting experience (went from 280lbs-215lbs).
I was doing the 5/3/1 program before I stopped, with a 380lbs 1RM for both squat and deadlift.
Now I’m back, but I don’t know about going back to the 5/3/1. Right now I’d really, really like to trim the fat I still have off, but I still want to build strength. I’m looking in to the 6 Weeks to Superhero - Bigger Stronger Leaner - COMMUNITY - T NATION 6 Weeks to Superhero program, but I don’t know if I’m a seasoned enough lifter to attempt something like that.
Basically I’m just looking for a nudge in the right direction. Fat-loss, and then strength, are my two top goals and always have been. Right now, though, fat-loss is #1
Do a strength training program; it will help you keep/maintain the same strength, and even GAIN strength, while you are cutting & losing fat.
Losing fat is all about your diet.
That’s my input

Yea, I realized that after posting I could stick with 531 (which I’m a big fan of) to build strength and lose the fat as effectively as any program with my current body composition… I don’t need to focus on programs that are designed for rapid fat burn to have fat burn.
I’ve done 5x5 and 531 before, and I’ve enjoyed them both. Do you have any other strength training programs you could recommend?

Why would you change programs when the program you were doing was getting you closer to your gains? Keep doing 5/3/1. Clean up your diet. Do lots of conditioning.
