Bill Seno…dead at 86
Ive heard the name… first time seeing a pic. Freaking beast.
Jamie Lewis wrote of him. Amazing accomplishments. A real pioneer. We lost a good one.
I had never heard of Bill Seno.
I did a little search and found that he was from the Chicago area and that he was on the cover of the August 1964 Muscular Development magazine (Bob Hoffman.)
In 1963/64 I was in the 10th grade. It was “common knowledge” that lifting weights made you muscle bound. Lifting weights was an esoteric endeavor at that time. I only knew two brothers at that time who lifted weights and they were not at all athletic. The “common knowledge” of the day corresponded with those brothers.
Muscle Beach Party was released in 1964. The bodybuilders were the odd ones. Larry Scott was one of them.
IMO, had Bill Seno lived in Santa Monica in his peak he would become one of the big names in Joe Weider’s magazines along with Larry Scott and Dave Draper.
Of course everything bodybuilding changed when Sergio Olivia and Arnold Schwarzenegger became all the talk. And bodybuilding began to rise from an esoteric cult to the mainstream. It took about 10 years to mature.
Thanks for the respect you gave Bill Seno. It gave me a chance to appreciate his accomplishments. I liked what his daughter said when asked if Bill Seno made any money through weight lifting and she said, “Zero point zero dollars.”
Reminds me of Meadows. Packed with muscle.
