lol, yeah. Health care FTW.
It’s not just Canada though; I’m pretty sure you guys would have to declare any Canadian purchases crossing the border back into the States depending if your state had taxes? Not sure how taxes in the US works though.

Exciting news indeed! Anybody here order from American Nutrition in Hamilton? We’ve used them a few times and they’re pretty good about delivery but I found them to be expensive on anything short of $600+ orders.

Wow! I go to school at McMaster, and didn’t even know about American Nutrition; will definitely be checking it out. Would it be cheaper for me to get them there, or order them? They won’t release a price list until I contact them.
Where in Ontario are you?
All us guys in Toronto should batch order large quantities of supps. I got mine off a friend before, now I have to figure out how to get 'em.

I paid $39.99 for 24 cans of beer(Blue) to go on a bus trip cause no bottles were allowed…wrap your head around that one.
You paid $40 for a 24 of Blue?
That is wrong on so many levels. My condolences.
So does anyone know if this “flat rate” includes the bull$hit Custom Brokerage Fee charge that courier companies charge to cross the border with your order?
That in itself was costing around $20-$25, which is why the US Postal Service rocked…
As for duty, if the merchandise you’re buying from Biotest is actually manufactured in the USA, then you would not be required to pay duty fees on it. If the supps and clothing are actually manufactured in the USA, then you can dispute your duty charges. If it’s first imported to the USA from elsewhere, then you would pay duty fees.

I’m not an expert at this but I’ve used (different username) the quick shipping methods which included those fees at the door but ever since using the slow method there has not been a fee at the door. The great thing is there is hardly a delay between both shipping methods. Maybe a business day or two. It’s pretty quick itself. I don’t know if this is the reason, just throwing it out there.
Yeah I’ve always used the US Postal service and it gets here in around the same amount of time, at half the costs (shipping)… When I went to do an order today I noticed that the option to use the US Postal Service is now gone and it’s just the Fedex flat rate fee…
I just don’t want to be surprised when my package comes in and I have to pay another $25 for the “brokerage fee”…
Has anyone done an order since the flat rate took effect and did they have to pay additional fees? Or was it all included…
Would sure be nice to have this confirmed…

Received an ordrer today
I had the 25$ flat rate fee for the shipping + had to pay 38$ at the door (order of about 210$)
Goddammit.
TC, Tim, anyone? Can we go back to US Postal Service? Please?
Taxes and duties are the devil’s work.
Yea, I have ordered lots of stuff through fedex, I talked to the guy about the fee, he told me that anything that is couriered over the boarder, ie. fedex, ups, etc. will be charged by customs. He continued that fedex pays the fees upfront, then charges you $10 for paying your fee and that you have to pay them back. USPS was the way to go. In the end we are going to be paying the same amount as we were before with the customs fee attached.

Isn’t that just the QST and GST for the most part? Is so, the shipping method has nothing to do with it.

No.
You should do some research. Shipping Biotest supplements into Canada should NOT have and “duties”. It could have “brokerage fees”. I’m not sure what FedEx is charging with the new $25 shipping fee since I haven’t ordered recently, in the past they didn’t charge me anything (was included in the shipping quote). US Postal Service used to charge a flat $5 broker (in 2007 I believe), and UPS used to charge oh an arm or so.
The Biotest supplements are a US product, therefore covered under NAFTA and do not trigger duties. However, an customs officer could code it incorrectly triggering a charge…and well have fun disputing it.
You SHOULD pay sales taxes at the border, just the same as if you went shopping for the day in the US.
Is there any chance of flat rate shipping to Australia any time soon?
The order i’m about to place for my brother and I will have a shipping cost of $178 USD or $193 AUD, its a tad exccessive!
Some help on the shipping costs would have alot more of the Aussies on here buying more products.

Correct on the taxes and if you should pay duty or not…

That’s $63 to ship a $210 order - 30% of the order cost… A bit excessive…
I’d really like my US Postal Service option back, or at least make a deal with Fedex (if you want to use them as your preferred shipper) to include their brokerage fees in that flat-rate cost…
/sigh

Yeah, this seems about right.
$210*.05 = $10.50 (GST)
$220.50 * .075 = $16.54 (QST) p.s. This is a pretty fucked up way to calculate provincial and federal taxes in my opinion. how do they justifying taxing the tax???
Taxes Total = 27.04
Add to that a $10 brokerage fee (as per 123Watson above) and that would get you to approximately $38 (depending on where amounts were rounded)
so it’s not too bad anymore
i’m certainly considering ordering from Biotest now, but now i just can’t decide if it’s worth my while to get it delivered to a mailbox in the US to avoid the shipping/brokerage fee altogether, or if my gas/time is worth saving the $35
