Can I Go To The Gym?

I’ve been laid up for that last week and 2 weeks or so with a 4 cm long x 2cm wide x 3 cm deep whole in my right upper glute that is packed/unpacked with sterile dressing daily. Consequentially I’ve been out the gym for about 3 weeks and am going out of my mind. I’m strongly contemplating trying to train around this at a lesser intensity then normal. I’ve also consisdering trying to bring up my lagging arms and shoulders.

I’d like to do EDT for arms. Any suggestions on shoulder work would be appreciated. Thanks  BTW I’ve been using sesathin since I’ve been out the hospital with r-ala and have been eating pretty sloppy + not training and am still sporting a better 6 pack then I’v had in awhile. + I’ve gained back 6 lbs that I lost while in the hospital, although I’d imagine that a good 4 was fluid.

hey,

if i’ve read correctly, your immunity levels can drop to about 50% after a workout. do you really want to do that with your condition? your body needs to heal itself.

if you can’t stay away from the iron, i guess you should stay away from leg exercises. you don’t want anything activating your glutes… i guess machine work?

I would definately talk to your primary doctor that you have for this case before you do anything. Desire is fine-stupidity is not. You have to consider things like dislodging a blood clot in your leg and sending it directly to the pump room. That could end your lifting program on an eternal basis. Even lifting with your forearms could cause you to “flex” your legs. Get well first and then worry about your program and definately talk to a doctor first.

Good Luck!

man, what the hell happened to your ass?!
don;t even think of moving right now, man…wait until you heal.

I agree that you should probably get medical clearance again before lifting.

In the meantime, you could do some of the things that we all mean to do, but sometimes don’t dedicate enough time to. For example, you could do daily stretching, prehab on the external rotators, and possibly some light cardio.

As much as it blows, I pretty much knew that’s what you where all gonna say. My doctor is a dickwad and we were right about to get rid of him after he sort of “dropped the ball” on my grandfather’s death earlier this summer. Unfortunatley this sort of thing just popped up.

As for the whole blod clot idea. I’m certainly not a doctor but, I would imagine I’m beyond risk for that at this point (2weeks). When I was in the hosptital they had these little circulation boots they put on me for a day or so. Then they saw me walking around, standing up to change the thermostat, get up to look out the window at the courtyard ect. and they took them off. Also I’ve had close to 1/2 a dozen rigorous bang sessions all of which lasted over an hour, and I was rarely on the bottom. The only thing I noticed the next day was some slight muscle twitches in the area. My dressing nurse says I’m healling up well and hasn’t once yet said there looks to be a problem.

I’m sorry if I sound like/am being stubborn in regaurds to your responses, IT’S JUST REAL FRUSTRATING NOT BEING ABLE TO DO SOMETHING YOU LOVE WHEN YOU REALLY FEEL LIKE YOU ARE CAPABLE.

In response to what I did, here it goes. I’m framing my house with a 2 man crew (I’m one of the 2). The other guy’s a lil older but very experianced and a great carpenter/builder. Anyway I was lifting this very large gurder (about 35 ft long and I’d guess 330 lbs or so). Naturally once you get something like that up you don’t wanna put it down until it gets to where it needs to go. That being understood, while I was carrying it I backed into a scaffling and felt something pretty sharp poke me through my jeans in the now bandange area. Like most working men would do I quickly moved away while spurting out a few obscenities and kept working. Later that night in the shower I notice a lil something and thought little of it. The weekend came and went and I felt fine/the little injury was gone. Then on Tuesday morning I woke up with what I thought was the flu ( ie. achy, chills, fever, squirts) and my lower back felt like shit. Now I figured I got the flu and the 450 dead that I pulled the night before was why my lower back was so tight/kinda swollen. 2 days passed and the flu syptoms went away, so I went back to work. At this point the pain in my lower back was only on the right side and took up my upper glute and somewhat down my right hamstring. I figured it was a muscle pull or maybe even a tear. It hurt when I bent over or squated and felt bruised. About a week and 1/2 of this went on and then I started running a fever at night, and I started thinking about the nail, so I immediately made a doctor’s appointment. Once I saw him, and explained he sent me to the hospital immediately. That night I was opperated on, and spent the next 3 days or so there. Fortunately I had my own room and some cute nurses that I sorta knew from visiting my grandfather soo much at the beginning of the summer. Plus this one girls I’m seeing (she’s such a lil angel) came and cheered me up.

Wide,

I believe in my heart of hearts that you can indeed go to the gym…

And sit there, and watch other people work out, chat with your bro’s and hit on girls…

But you shouldn’t train.

In this case I firmly believe that you’re only going to prolong the healing process. Hell even the sweat you produce during a lifting session can seep into the Iodoform and impede proper healing. Stay off the iron until you’re completely healed then hit the gym like a madman.

I’m glad your injury was work related, when I first read what your malady was my initial thought was “dumb bastard used a dirty needle and necrosis set in, I know he knows better than that…” I’m glad I was wrong.

Take care,
Stay off the iron.

B.

Yeah what’s fucked up is that I told the operating doctor what I’m running while I was all doped up because I got nervous and it seemed like the right thing to do. Immediately his whole demeanor changed. Infact when I was totally fucked up in the post o.r. I remember him walking by me and saying something like " Maybe now you won’t take steroids" I told him to suck my fucking dick and probably worse. Unfortunatley for me, he changed my dressing the next morning for the first time. I was in a dead sleep and he came in/didn’t wait for me to get some morphine and just started tugging and ripping away. Then as if that didn’t suck enough he told my family doctor. Then that FUCKING COCKSUCKING SNIVVELING LITTLE HALF A FAG, has the nerve to chat this little bit of gossip back to my “emergency contact” aka my fucking mom. Needless to say I never oppened my mouth about my use again because I could see nobody would believe me.

Then to make matters even more frustrating, apparently one of the nurses that was flirting with me told some loud mouth d-bag about my “injury”. In fact she asked me if my story was really legit while I was in the hospital too, and that I could trust her not to say anything. YEAH RIGHT BITCH! YOU THINK I CAN’T SPOT A FUCKING MONKEY WRENCH HO WHEN I SEE ONE, YOU TRIFFLING ASS TWAT. Naturally I smiled and said I don’t know what she’s talking about. So back to the d-bag. This kid comes over to me in the bar last weekend (I had to get out) and starts blabbing about me how he heard I had an abcess, not knowing how to juice, what are u one, what am I one, how big is your dick, can I suck it? Just kidding about those last 2.

I honestly felt pretty violated. First off, I told my operating doctor that shit so that he could do his job without any complications for his sake and my own. As for the the speculating slut nurse that’s fucked up too. U can bet next time I see her I’m gonna let her know that if I ever wanted any lip from her I’d tell her to turn around, drop her scrubs, bend over and KEEP HER FUCKING MOUTH SHUT! Then jerk-off coming up to me in a crowded bar and shooting is mouth off!! WTF?!! I swear if I didn’t have a gapping whole in my asscheeck I would have shattered that kids fucking mandible with a solid headbutt, watched him melt under the bar, and walked away nobody the wiser.

End of Rant.

Hey Wideguy~
I don’t blame you for being pissed. Looks to me like they violated your legal right to patient confidentiality http://www.hipaadvisory.com/regs/HIPAAprimer.htm and http://www.os.dhhs.gov/ocr/hipaa/
and that’s really f****ed up. Anything you tell your care provider should be used only for theraputic reasons and not for “gossip”, and should not be shared with others but only for continuity of care. Sometimes “professionals” can be not so professional.

About training during illness, I think you should wait until you have completely eradicated the infection, as your immune response will have to compete for both illness and training recovery and one or the other will suffer, causing even longer training-less days, even though it sucks not to be able to train.

Get well soon…

Love and Aloha,
chinadoll:)

Yeah I’m aware of of the whole doctor patient confidentiality thing. I’m also aware of where both doctor’s live and what they drive ;-(

Anyway nice to hear from u Chinadoll, I always welcome sympathy from pretty ladies:-) Take care.
