Can a Knee Swell from Overuse?

Last week my legs were feeling really good and strong, and I did five straight days of fairly hard training, without pain. There was no single event where I noticed any injury. This knee has a history of bursitis, tendonitis and a meniscus tear, but this time the swelling is largely pain-free, and spread over the whole joint. Just wondering if plain old overuse can cause this. Typically my patella tendon will get a burning sensation toward the outside, when I just try to do too much. Even at the end of the fifth straight day, I could do ATG split squats with zero pain. Then the swelling happened.
