Has anyone ever increased their calf size without doing standing or seated raises? How about running on an inclined treadmill? Any tips to help me out?

Don Alessi’s routine Strength Training, Bodybuilding & Online Supplement Store - T NATION put mass on my calves. Part 1 doesn’t have standing or seated raises, but was quite effective.

There are other exercises that can help with calf size including running and rope jumping. If you jump rope a few days a week, you’ll notice a difference in a matter of a couple weeks.

U could try calf implants, like that nimrod of MTV.lol. Actually jumping and landing on the balls of your feet with weight is a good exercise. Also why are calf rasies out of the question?

I have a friend who says his calves didn’t grow until he took up running.

I have a enourmous dificulty in getting my calvesto grow. I’ve had some sucess lately after i started to train the tibialis (the other calfs). Basicly i do calfs first in my workout and i do 5 sets for them and five for the tibialis, i use the leg press and the smith machine for this, if you do a search on tibialis theres some threads about this topic. Also, i warm up jumping rope for 5 minutes. I’m convinced its crucial to train thetibialis, i mean you wouldn’t train biceps without ever training triceps would you? Or chest and no back? I remember reading somewere that your body might even block the growth of a muscle to prevent a muscle imbalance that might be harmfull.

The reason I was asking for an alternative to the standard calf raises is because I simply have had no luck. I’ve tried high reps, low reps, heavy weight, supersets, dropsets. I’m almost convinced they’re useless exercises.

Heavy deads and ballistic oly lifts, power cleans specifically.

Try working up to 30+ minutes on the Gauntlet (rotating staircase) on the balls of your feet, or tip-toed. Great cardio and KILLER for calf growth.

You’re going to hate this response, but have you ever noticed that ballet dancers have really well defined calves? If more macho type exercises don’t work for you, why not try something completely out of the ordinary?

try coach davies renegade rope training. if you have never jumped rope before be prepaired to have some very fucking sore calves.

I’ve been loading up my backpack with 100 lbs of sand and walking to work - going uphill with a heavy pack is an incredible claf workout.

You could try Conceiled Carry with a Desert Eagle 3 x week

I got my enormous calves from hockey, basketball, and football that i played through highschool. My last season of track really brought them out. It’s hard to fit in jeans. I hate them. Just try doing things or sports where you are constantly on your toes. This can increase calf size.

Desert Eagle? Geez, for concealed carry I’d go with something a little larger, like a .454 or perhaps a Ma Deuce. How exactly do you deal with the resulting muscle imbalance (i.e. one calf getting bigger than the other)? Dual pistols, perhaps? I’m interested in this one…

The Dessert Eagle .50 action express is actually a bigger factory load than the 454 cassull. The cassull will tolerate a heavier hand load though. You could try the new 480 ruger.

Yes you could carry dual Deagles in a double vertical sholder holster, they weigh about 4.5 lbs each, so you could get a good effect.

buy some track spikes and go sprinting…you’ll never go back to calf raises again.
