immune systems are closely related to
1-how you sleep
2-what you eat
3-stress levels
control as much of these 3 as you can. of course you might catch a thing or 2 but 8 months of sickness is hell in a box.
make sure you’re including a solid variety in your diet (I know you usually low-carb it), are you taking a daily multi? that could help if you have any basic deficiencies.
I guess I have, at that.
I ran my 10K today. I don’t know my exact time but I’m sure it was over an hour. Maybe 1.01. Not great, but given I’ve not been well lately and had a really shitty night’s sleep (I’m stressing over the exam on Monday, and…well, some other stuff going on that I’ll come to) I suppose I can’t beat myself up. The last 10K is in October. I intend to do better at that one.
There’s also a 6 mile cross country race at another common near me the previous weekend. I’m tempted…actually. Could be nice to do a run somewhere new.
Anyway, I have my instructor exam tomorrow. I’m not that worried about the teaching part, it’s the all the bloody paperwork that’s doing my head in. So many forms to fill in, argh.
But here’s my new news…I’ve a friend who teaches drama at a school in west London. He phoned me up and said would I fancy teaching PE to small kids? The PE teacher they had lined up for this term found she was pregnant and dropped out. Apparently, as it’s a private school, you don’t need a teacher training qualification. I would have to teach kids stuff like netball and hockey, which I loathed when I was at school, lol. And me and kids…heh heh. Well. Apparently the money’s good and it’s only three days a week. I’ve an interview on Tuesday and if they like me I could start Wednesday. Scary shit.
Well, don’t know that it’s congratulations on the race. My time came back as 1.01.3 - that’s more than a minute slower than I needed to be. I know I’ve not been at my best but the disappointment is still there.
I’m still having trouble sleeping. Exam today…gulp
Will report later.
think of them (all of them) as though theyre you’re drunk flamboyantly gay male friends. random skipping, great flexibility, attention span of, well, a child, but so easily entertained.
you’ll be good at it, if they realize how awesome you are.
Exam finished - I think it went OK but I did put my foot over a barbell, which is a no (health & safety). I’m hoping they didn’t notice. The rest was OK, I think. Results will be in the post. I know I passed my theory - 49/50. I wonder which one I got wrong. Thanks for the well wishes.
Interview today - I’m leaving as soon as I finish this cuppa. Bear - yes, but I’ll have to be a lot less rude than I am with my flamboyantly gay friends. Heh.
So today is officially a good news day.
I passed my practical exam, so I am now qualified to work in a gym for minimum wage (lawl!)
I would need to do an advanced course to get a better paying job or work as a personal trainer, but never mind that, because the other bit of news is that I am going to be working as a PE teacher in a girls school (ages 3-11) starting tomorrow.
It’s part time (3 days a week) and as the school is private, I don’t actually need a teacher qualification - just willingness to have a go, really. It’s all a bit terrifying but I’m sure I’ll cope. Reason I got the job is my friend works there as a drama teacher and phoned me up to say the teacher they’d hired suddenly dropped out due to becoming pregnant, so they needed someone to fill in really quickly.
It’s temporary to start but if I like it and they like me, it could become permanent.
So, wow, my life changes completely, once more.

Did my first day today - thrown in at the deep end, pretty much. (I had to take them swimming, but I don’t actually teach the swim class - I just have to make sure the little darlings get in and out of the changing rooms with minimum fuss). I also taught three classes.
I feel absolutely exhausted. Well, I always said I wanted to get away from a desk job, and I wanted a job with more holidays. Be careful what you wish for! Heh.
I’ll have a steep learning curve - teaching the kids stuff like netball and hockey will require that I actually learn a bit about those sports myself. And then there’s all the names, the maintaining of discipline, and so forth… I think I will be sleeping very well tonight.
As I work Wed - Fri I won’t be training those days, so I’ll have to find creative ways to get my own training in. But I have a four day weekend so…should be fine.
I’d go back to school for it if I knew I had a guranteed job lined up…then again, there are no gurantees, eh?
…and lookit you, it just falls into your lap. Thats awesome!
