Cal's Big Log

'Grats on finishing the race!!!

Good job on the run.

It was 95 down here in Dogpatch and if it was less than 86% humidity I’ll give up beer.

If i was running behind a guy in a mankini I’d have quit and I don’t even really know what a mankini is.

This…

^ HAHA! Oh goodness.

Great job on the run. Keep in mind, a change in weather like that is liable to add time to the run.

Everytime i see your chins they’re going up! That’s awesome.

Oh. My. God. that is far worse than I had imagined.

great. now I’m blind!

Well, that’s Borat, of course…the guy who ran had a lot less body hair.

Thankfully today was much cooler. Still lovely and sunny, but with a nice cool breeze. Perfect for running. So I went to the common at lunchtime and busted some ass again.

Eight hill/trail repeats. Felt easier than before. Not easy, but my recovery was better and my breathing at the top didn’t sound like someone sawing wood. Felt pretty good about it.

Guess I need to do these fast runs and sprints as that’s all the exercise my legs are getting. Still, they don’t look any worse for it.

Chomping through some tuna, eggs and broccoli now. Om nom, and all that.

ugh.That shit should be illegal.

Good work on the sprints Cal.

Yeah, the sprints really take it out of me. Felt good at the time but I ended up going to bed at 9.30pm because I was too tired (as in fatigued rather than sleepy) to sit up in my chair. And definitely too fatigued to hit the gym this morning. I guess the low cals play a part in that but still.

Sprints always wipe me, now I’m not nearly as fit as you are but I can easily imagine that wipng you out.

Sprints do freaking blow! But just think about how nice and strong your ass is getting…nevermind I’ll think about that for you

Hey Cal! Congrats on finishing the 5K, and that time in 30 degree weather is very impressive!

Also impressive - your awesome training while dieting. Love to see all that heavy lifting, which will definitely help you maintain your muscle while the fat melts away. Those hill sprints are for sure gonna help with that too.

We’ve been having unseasonably hot weather here too. Feels more like July or August than May. I’ll take it though, it’s nice to have an early summer!

Well it dropped by 10 degrees since Monday (celsius) and is more comfortable now, thankfully.

I was supposed to hit the gym Thursday morning but my colleague asked me to cover his early shift because he was away (we don’t really work shifts as such - we mostly start at 9am but one of us has to be in at 8 each day in case we get some early calls) so I thought I’d run at lunchtime instead. But holy shit I was so low on energy I could barely think, let alone move. I didn’t even do my 2 mile walk back to the station after work but got a train all the way home! I popped into the shop and bought some nuts and tropical dried fruit mix and ate those. I felt better today, as a result.

I did go and do my 8 hill sprints again but they were so much harder than Tuesday’s. I couldn’t manage much of a recover jog after. My thighs felt as though there was no juice in them. Going to have some more carbs now so that I can actually do a gym workout tomorrow!

It’s a public holiday on Monday so I’m going to enjoy my three day weekend. Of course, I don’t know if I have a job next week - I haven’t got the two placements I was supposed to get this month, although three of my candidates look certain to get offers. But fuck it, I’m off to America in a week’s time so little can dampen my spirits for now.

I’m glad that coming over here is such a happy-making thought! I, on the other hand, am looking forward to an Amsterdam/Brussels summer vacation.

Mmmm. Carbs.

yay, I’m excited that your excited for you trip! you’ve been talking about that for awhile. Have you been able to look into any gym jobs just in case?

Not yet, I’ll need to retrain, I think. I don’t think my qualification is valid any more - aside from anything, I lost the certificate years ago and it was in my old name. I emailed the organisation but no one replied, unfortunately. I’ll worry about it later.

Kimba - Amsterdam is great fun!

Remember while you are in the U.S. that though there are BBQ restaurants everywhere you do not want to eat in them north of the Mason-Dixon line. It’s like getting Italian food in Ireland, which you also do not want to do. Shudders while remembering the lasagne with french fries

Enjoy your trip, and don’t forget to regale us with tales of misadventure when you return.

Lol! you got through the sprints and that’s all that matters. When I feel like i’m having low energy, I’m definitely happy with just being able to get through workouts - after all, its damn hard while your getting through it. and that’s gotta count for something, no?

I love your trip! I need a roller coaster vacation too!

hey Cal. guess i need to scroll back a page or two and see where abouts you are going to ride those coasters. glad you are hitting it hard and still on that cutting plan. cheers!

Here’s the itinerary:

Sat 5th: Fly to Charlotte. Arrive at Carowinds at 3pm. (Yes this is a loooong day)
Sun 6th: AM Carowinds, PM Myrtle Beach

Tue 8th: Busch Gardens Europe (w00t! I have wanted to come here for the longest time)

Thu 10th: Six Flag America (MD). I have heard this is the worst Six Flags park but I’ll wait and see.

Sat 12th: Morey’s Piers NJ (Wildwood). Again, visited in 1998. Not much new I think but it’ll be a nice relaxing day if the weather’s nice.
Sun 13th: Hershey Park ¶. I have been to Hershey Park a couple of times but not since 2001, so there are some new rides for me to try. Bit concerned about it being a Sunday though - will be busy.
Mon 14th: Knoebels ¶: I have been to Knoebels three times but it’s one of my favourite parks. So yeah, looking forward to this. Plus they have the best milkshakes ever!
Tue 15th: Waldameer Park: this one is new to me.
Wed 16th: Seabreeze (NY) AM. I have been before and don’t think much is new - however it’s a nice park. PM we go to Niagra Falls and do the tourist stuff. I had a brief stop here in 2001 but glad I get some more time this time around.
Thu 17th: AM - Darien Lake (NY). Went here in 2001 and the best coaster was broken down. So finally I will get to ride it. PM - Martin’s Fantasy Island. New park for me. Oh, and it’s my birthday.
