Cal's Big Log II: The Revenge

woot, DL’ing!!!

<3 <3

Heh. So today I organised my first sports day (everything from the 3-5 year olds in Early Years up to the 10-11 year olds who are about to leave the school).

Lots of sack races, egg and spoon races and just general running, including a relay. Weather stayed dry (very warm, even), no one died, got seriously injured, stung by a bee or had a tantrum, so I count it as a win. One girl was so exhausted during her 600m race that she cried (I know how she felt - I nearly cried from exhaustion during my half marathon) and another cried because she missed on of her races. But other than that, it was pretty smooth running. I think everyone enjoyed it - headmistress said thank you and well done. I know she wants to tweak some of it for next year which is fair enough - first time we were at that particular venue and things like the relay weren’t quite as well organised as they could have been, but hey. It was pretty good for a first try.

I’ve just spent the last two and a half hours typing up the results, working out house points and making a medals list so that it’ll be easier to dish them out in assembly on Thursday.

Now I’m going to collapse in a small puddle. Back to the gym tomorrow.

Well done, Cal! Look at all of the talents you didn’t even know you had.

What do you mean by a reverse hyper with a V on top? Might have to steal some of your activation here.

It’s a reverse hyper but I, uh, spread my legs at the top. So up, then out.

Congrats on the sports day! We used to call that Field Day when I was in school. So much fun! And my mom would come watch, and I would get all sorts of prize ribbons, and eat pizza and hang out with my little friends…sigh, the good ol days. Until you’re cleaning out your closet 20 years later and you’re like “WTF am I supposed to do with a box full of ribbons!” (obvi i kept all the first place ones and tossed the rest). Anyways, I just love that your a rec teacher. That could be the awesomest job in the world!

Ok, so your squats may be a bit shitty, but the mere fact that you’re trying to make them more challenging is a sign of great perseverance! Kudos to you.

And awesome work on the DLs! Alternating between conv and sumo is badass! Unlike you, my conv is no where near my sumo - very commendable.

You’ll get to running! Be patient.

Oh! That’s how I always did my rev hypers, with a V. I didn’t realize i should have kept my legs together…quelle surprise!

I just lurk in Cal’s log, cause I dig her accent.

that’s weird, isn’t it~

In my head, Cal sounds like Patsy from Ab Fab minus the coke and cigarettes.

Ha ha no, Joanna Lumley is quite posh. I’m from South London - I sound more like Jason Statham, lol.

I can probably jury rig a reverse hyper on a Swiss ball, but there is no reverse hyper equipment at my gym. sadface.

great pulling on the deads and learning glute activation is paramount. big lesson learned there Cal.
pulling more with sumo means you’re using your ass properly vs using only your back.

< ---------------- Supports proper use of the arse muscles ------------ !

Way to go on focusing on glute activation for improving deads! Your squats will come, just give it time! For so many reasons, I think it takes longer and more tenacity to get the squat right than the deadlift or bench.

Glad to hear sports day was a success. As an adult, I look back and can’t believe how hard my teachers must have worked (the good ones) to pull off some of the things that they did with us!

Don’t worry about the squats. If you just keep showing up and doing them, enjoying the fact that you’re challenging yourself each time even if it doesn’t seem like you’re progressing as fast as you want, the progress will happen. Probably not every week, but over the course of years who cares?

Maybe I’ll be able to squat properly by the time I’m 50. One can dream!
I was supposed to go to the gym today - it would have been my last training for a week because I’m off to ride some coasters over the (long) weekend. But I just felt to sore and beat up this morning. My neck is still bothering me - I’ve had a headache for a week. I’ve booked myself into see Nicole next Wednesday - she’ll crack my neck and sort me out. I’ll have her look at that foot, too. I’m rather concerned about the lump that moves around there. That’s definitely not right. (I haven’t been to see a doctor - I haven’t seen any at my local practise who know shit about sports injuries so I just go straight to Nicole or a physio if something’s wrong).

I did go for a walk, though. Had to force myself but felt a lot better once I was out there. I think I actually need to walk. My last job was a desk job and although I spent a huge amount of time sitting on my arse, I used to walk half an hour to walk, an hour during lunch break and half an hour home, five days a week. Now I’m working three days and although my job involves a lot of standing around (and climbing three flights of stairs up to the staff room every time I get a break) I miss my walks. The four days I’m not working I tend to sit on my arse a whole lot more. It might explain why I’m having trouble shifting this weight.

As far as the weight goes, I don’t think I look too bad but as all my trousers are uncomfortably tight, I need to do something. I’m not sure if it’s just that my standards have got lower, or if I’ve added muscle to my thighs without losing fat, thus making them larger. There’s definitely a bit more quad sweep going on (but I can pinch an inch of adipose on the front of my quad, never mind the flesh I can grab on my inner thigh).

Unfortunately, just eating healthy doesn’t make any difference to my body comp. I’ve only ever managed to lose weight by doing something drastic. And I’m not sure if I should go that route again, what with my history of binge eating. I’ll have a think about it over the next few days and decide what to do.

I get where you are coming from with not going down that route again. I’ve been flip flopping the last few weeks, but I think I’ll skip it, I just can’t go backwards where that is concerned.

The lack of walks probably contributes, maybe? It would for me in the long run. Still think lots of arse sitting doesn’t do any good. This is where a dog would come in handy.

And you look better than “I don’t think I look too bad”, sheesh! As someone else pointed out, you have a nice shape.

Drastic doesn’t work as a long-run, life solution. No-one can live on tuna and protein powder. But a new wardrobe is expensive, so I do think you need to attend to this issue of the pants not fitting right.

Feel free to tell me to shut up, but have you tried eating clean without eating your crack (dried fruit, nuts and chocolate) under the guise of “its healthy”? Eating your fill of lean protein, fresh fruit and veg isn’t purgatory and might be sustainable over the long haul. And I do think you are onto something with the sitting around for the four days you don’t work. Running is good (I know you are sidelined presently) but if walking works for your foot, definitely add that in.

Just lifting without the dreaded cardio wouldn’t keep me lean either. Maybe twenty years ago, but not now.

So much to catch up on over here.

Thanks for the Fahrenheit conversion to your heatwave story. HOT! We yanks appreciate it!

And I’m glad to hear that you’ve got some awesome new minimalist footwear! A little late birthday present for Cal! I love my Vibrams. Your pink ones are so much fun. I tried the Merrells too. Eventually they shall be mine. I agree, you can actually wear those around town and not be stared at.

Congrats on the job security! It feels good to know you are doing well and people appreciate it.

A headache for a whole week! Cal, that’s awful.

And I’m with you and Kimba on the squat difficulties. I think I’m the opposite though, way quad dominant. Not getting my booty into it.

Sorry to be so long winded but I hadn’t been over here for awhile! Hope the headache improves soon.

Oh, and more quad sweep, muscle is all good. I’m with Kimba. Just keep things simple, but not too drastic or you’ll set yourself up for a rebound. Maybe protein, veggies, some fruit…repeat. Until all your clothes fit nicely again. Then gradually reintroduce nuts and whole grains and see how you tolerate?

im loling hard over jury rig.

cal- yoga pants. lots of them. they dont need to be expensive, just black. promise.

Ha, I do have a lot of yoga pants. That’s the problem - I spend all my time in yoga pants or tracky bottoms and don’t realise how fat I’m getting until I try to get into something with a zip. Heh!

Kimba - yes, I’m trying the eating cleaner approach although it’ll be easier once I’m away from school as the kids tend to do stuff like bring in cakes or chocolates for their teachers at the end of term! I’m going to make a concerted effort to just eat cleaner and more Paleo-style over the summer and see what happens.

Also, I’ve done back extensions and hypers on a swiss ball - it’s not that hard. Just find something to hold on to and you’re good to go.

Right, one more morning of school (final assembly - I get to give out sports day medals) and then off for a weekend of northern England amusement parks. And rain. Lots of rain.
