THAT EGG IS BEAUTIFUL
Chocolate tasting club FTW!
I’ve heard of wine tasting but chocolate tasting, I would be all over that.
If you are going to indulge then go all out those chocolates looked worth it.
Cal: Nice long run! It’s time to taper now. You should take it pretty easy now until after the race. Just train to keep from going insane and to stay loose and mobile.
Thanks for the advice, Nadia. I wasn’t planning on doing another 13 miles this weekend - I’ll probably do a run about half that, unless you think that’s too much.
As it happens I lied about the gym - I ended up not going yesterday after all. I still felt tired from the run and it didn’t help that Flo rode into town so I ended up staying in, watching the episodes of Spartacus Gods of the Arena and Game of Thrones I’d recorded on Monday night. (I always make a point of recording shows that start 10pm or later, otherwise I will fall asleep in them).
Back to school today. It was a mixed day really but the weather stayed nice so all the lessons were in the playground. Being outdoors on a day like today is so much better than being stuck in an office. I remember a couple of years back when I was in my old job, looking out enviously at the Polish builders working on the scaffolding next door and thinking how lucky they were to get to play on a big climbing frame on a sunny day when I was stuck behind a desk.
Tomorrow we have a theme day for the children to celebrate the royal wedding, then the wedding itself means Friday is a day off, which if great. I’ll probably go to the gym rather than watch it. It’ll be nice and quiet and I can squat in peace.
<3 magnum ice cream
good luck at your race!
Hey Cal, I saw this link and thought you might appreciate it since you were asking about mobility. I’ve never done anything from the site but some others were saying good things about it:
Ah I’m already familiar with mobilitywod - great site. Good thought, though! I have picked up some good stuff from there but I’m not going to be able to undo 20+ years of keyboard posture in just a few months - think I’ll be working at this for some time.
so waiting to get my hands on the next sparticus!!!
i totally devoured the first season in 1 weekend.
never heard of game of thrones- how do you like it?
Game of Thrones is new (two episodes shown so far - the UK is one day behind the US which makes a change as we usually have to wait months) and is based on A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin. Not quite as much gore and nudity as Spartacus but it’s not far off, actually. It’s more fantasy-based but lots of political intrigue. I haven’t read the books but I like it so far. I think there’s a thread about it on GAL.
aussie is similarly getting not that far behind the US. when it comes to House anyways.
wish we got a day off for the wedding. not that i care about the wedding, but a day off would be nice.
do you still sit in front of your computer? have you looked into a standing station or kneeling or something like that?
I had a desk custom built into my wall so there’s no way to lower or raise it. Sitting is the only height that’s appropriate.
Cal: I would keep the run under an hour–maybe 45 minutes. Sometimes after a long run, even if I’m not sore, I feel like dog shit that next week. It’s one of those–I just ran 13 miles how can I be struggling through 3–moments. But, that’s usually what happens to me. Easy this week and you’ll be good and ready to go the next.
so how does the town you are in feel with all the buzz of tomorrows Royal Wedding?
It’s all thats on the news over here! ![]()
Have you ever tried chocolate with bits of bacon? Its sounds good on paper, but i found it god awful. bleh! I like my chocolate and my bacon, but together it just feels so very, very wrong.
So you recommend Game of Thrones, eh? I was eyeing that on the telly. I’ll have a watch! I love series. Cant wait for True Blood to come back - “snookeh!”
YAY! Prince William is getting married. I love weddings!
@ Nadia - noted and thanks.
@ MiM - couldn’t care less. I actually went to the gym to get away from it and it was on the telly there. I came home. At the computer now. TV is turned off.
The royal family is no longer relevant and is only useful for tourism. The last two two big royal weddings (Charles/Diana and Andrew/Fergie) ended in divorce and, more to the point, the Queen could last another 15-20 years if her mother is anything to go by and Charles will be an old man by the time he takes the throne, as will William. Chances that he’ll still be married to Kate by that point are, well, slim.
On top of that, weddings bore me. Even as a child I maintained that I wouldn’t get married. I wanted to be the knight, not the princess.
@ Masch - yeah I love True Blood. Were I Sookie I would totally have dumped Bill for the hot werewolf guy.
Gym today. Very similar leg workout to last week.
20 hypers (bum emphasising ones)
20 reverse hypers (with V at top)
20 clams (per leg)
20 side leg raises (per leg).
100 step ups (50 per leg, alternating) using 8 risers + step.
2 x 12 bulgarian split squats (no weight). (+2 reps over last time)
Leg extensions:
10 reps, 1 minute hold at top, then 10 more reps: 20kg, 22.5kg (these fuckers burn)
Squat:
Bar x 10
3 x 30kg squats followed immediately by 10 jumping squats (no weight)
Bent over leg curl: 2 x 20kg (per leg) (11, 10)
Stretching.
I am not much of a wedding fan and was lucky enough to sleep through the entire thing.
The choice of those Bulgarian split squats is a good one. Just BW ones are hard enough, and this exercise really works hips, quads, butt well.
Love your leg session btw…
Does your gym have a v-squat machine?
I tried that bad boy out the other day and I quite like it. I attribute my upper glutes still doms-y from it…
