Spock, that’s why I stay off the forums. I read the blog - there are some great posts on it. But I’d rather not be evangelised to on forums. It’s the same with Crossfit. There is plenty of good stuff to be taken from it but the most vocal people on those forums are like cult members. No thanks.
Brute and Arachne - thanks! And Brute, you’re right. In my early 20s I was terrified to miss a day at the gym. I couldn’t afford to go on holiday then but I was afraid, if I did, I wouldn’t be able to train. Nuts, eh?
Workout was kind of a bomb today. I went in with the intention of doing full upper body but I was, as you Americans like to say, dragging ass. I’m not sure if it was my fault for playing Skyrim until 11pm or if it’s the fact I’ve lowered my carbs (nothing drastic, but I’ve cut out the rice aside from a meal out with a friend on Thursday) or the fact I forgot to take my caffeine pill before hitting the gym, but I sucked.
Warm-up, blah blah.
Millies:
Bar x 10
30kg x 10
3 x 32.5kg x 6
I wasn’t thinking of trying to match my feat the other day but I wanted a little volume at lower weights, yet 30kg felt heavy today.
Bench:
Bar x 10
30kg x 10
40kg x 10
45kg x 10
50kg x 9
I guess I could have got another rep on the last set with a spotter but I wasn’t using one. This is a bit disappointing after getting 10 reps last week. Guess I am tired. Shoulder, lower back and elbow all felt a bit cranky today as well.
After that I was scheduled to hit back but I really just wanted to go home. So I did one set of each exercise, relatively light.
Back Medley:
Close Grip Pulldowns: 40kg x 10
Straight Arm Pulldowns: 20kg x 10
Wide Grip Pulldowns: 30kg x 10
Cable Row: 20kg x 10 (This machine is heavier than most - 30kg feels very heavy on this one. I’ve done 50kg on others).
DB windmills: 14kg x 3 (slow) per arm.
Treadmill: 25 mins walk
0-15 mins @ 5% (0-1 5kph, 1-2 5.5kph, 2-13 6kph, 13-14 5.5kph, 14-15 5kph)
15-20 mins @ 2% (7kph)
20-25 mins @ 1% (20-21 6kph, 21-22 5.5kph, 22-25 5kph)
No gymnastics or stretching, but I did retrieve my big bag of washing from the laundrette and lug it home (which is uphill).
LOL Arachne! I have been playing it a lot since I got it but that’s nothing new. I always game obsessively and for many hours at a time. But I think the 11.30 bedtime didn’t help in this instance.
Betty - I’m fine, spirits-wise. Just didn’t have much pep in the gym, is all. I’m also mindful of the fact that, whilst this half term is shorter than the first half, it also includes (in the space of two weeks) a swimming gala, a three day netball competition (both organised by yours truly), a parents’ evening and a Saturday open day. Oh and report writing, of course. So it’s going to be full-on for a while.
On the positives, weight is sitting at 10 st 13 (153lbs). But I want it to come down a lot more. 6lbs since Jan 1st is less than 1lb a week. At this rate I’m not going to have abs in time for June (given than Easter comes between now and then, which is not only chocolate time but also I have a coaster friend visiting from the US and he and my coaster friends here are going to hit some parks, go out for food etc. I am not the type to stick to a strict diet when it means being antisocial).

Who dafukk sticks to diet on vacation anyways? And I HELLA count someone else vacationing in my town as vacation
Nice strong benching and hellz yeah on the milli PR Cal!!!
My vacation has released me from Skyrim. I’m trying to stay busy so I don’t get sucked back in right away. As we were walking the beach I was joking with the husband; “Look Nirnroot and cotton heads.”
LOL Frenchie! That’s the sort of thing I do, unfortunately.
Just dropping by quickly as I’ve been working and don’t usually train on workdays. Anyway, my kinesiotape arrived yesterday so I’m now sporting a rather fetching assemblage of bright pink and yellow tape around my right ankle. So far I’ve noticed no difference to the discomfort but I’ll give it time.
I am likely to be writing less for a few weeks - this term I have not only the school swimming gala and netball competition, but a netball competition at another school on what is normally my day off (Tuesday), an open day, a parents evening and - joy of joys - report writing. I remember it was this time last year that I went off my low carb diet because I just couldn’t cope with all that and not being able to concentrate. I will try not to let this year turn into a high carb free for all. In fact, I turned down chocolate today. Go me.
