Cal's Big Log 3D - Attack of the Giant Arse

Oh I believe it is, yes. I don’t know the dates yet but I’ll let you know soon as I do. We’re starting in LA then heading up to SF in the second week (with a detour to Salt Lake City after that).

And no, I didn’t use to train when I was sick either but when you’re sick three times in seven weeks, not training would make a big dent in my progress.

Well I’ll meetya wherever in NorCal!

Rollercoasters total bonus

Good job on the bench pressing. Hope you feel better soon!

That would be awesome, Hallie. You can have a good laugh at the coaster nerds I am forced to travel with. (My roomie, however, is a big, handsome gay American called Bill. He’s cool).

Gym today. Cold has entered a snotty phase which, hopefully, means I’m on the mend. But I spent the entire workout with a sneezy feeling in my right nostril, which sucked.

Warm-up crap.

Millies:

Bar x 10
25kg x 10
5 x 30kg: 10, 6 (?!), 8, (tweaked my levator, bollocks!), 7, 8, 7

I wasn’t up for going heavy today so decided to work in my 10 rep range but, well, didn’t go quite according to plan. 30kg (66lbs) felt heavy today and I struggled to get 10 reps on the first set, let alone the rest. But well, I guess it’s my third training day in a row and I am sick, so I’ll cut myself some slack.

Rear Delt Flye:

6kg x 30 (I guess this was a bit light, huh)
8kg x 15
10kg x 10

Superset: Hang Power Clean/Lateral Raises

Bar x 12/6kg x 20
30kg x 8/6kg x 20
30kg x 8/6kg x 20

My hands and wrists were fatiguind first on these. Hmm.

Dips:

10, 10, 8

10 reps felt hard today. Guess I’m a bit heavy right now.

Superset: Body Rows/Push-ups

12/12
10/12

Superset: Overhead DB Extension/Supinating DB Curls

20kg x 10/10kg x 10
22kg x 8/12kg x 8

After that I did some handstand and cartwheel work (the latter sucked today) and then got down to stretching.

Off to teach that bloody after school class this afternoon. I’m supposed to be on holiday, too, but my school’s holiday is different from this other one. Eh.

Also, visiting parents tomorrow - mum is in hospital (nothing serious - she has an infection and had a bit of a temperature) so dad is on his own. Just a day visit but I won’t be able to train.

UHH YES you should cut yourself some slack! Just going to the gym is an accomplishment for the majority of the population, let alone going sick, let alone still being strong…

Do you use a nettie pot (sp?) at all?? I use it all the time even when I am not sick because I always just feel stuffed up. It works wonders!

That’s some crazy supersetting! Awesome work!

You are about twice as strong as I am on the rear self flies. 10kg? RLY? Wow. I find those soo difficult!

And yes I will see you on a norcal coaster in June! Yay!

I’d have to 2nd the netti potti, takes a bit to get used to but now its like nothing.

Ah I’m jealous, a California trip! Not to mention meeting Ms Hallie there.

I was talking to a friend that’s a kindergarten teacher, and she said she was sick for the first two years, but she hasn’t been sick since. You’re eventually going to have an amazing immune system.

^ I hope that’s true for ya, Cal!!

Yeah, me too! I am fed up of being sick, but well, at least I’m not using it as an excuse to skip the gym this time.

Visited my mum in hospital today. Whatever infection (cold, or whatever) she had is gone but there’s no hint of a release date. She no longer seems to make any effort to rehab herself (for those who didn’t follow previously, she had a massive stroke a few years ago and lost the ability to move her right side or speak, other than yes and no). When she first had the stroke she could get around and up and down stairs but she has declined to the point she can no longer stand unaided or move around. I think she’s given up. I do worry about dad (who had his own stroke previously) because he doesn’t seem to be able to cope with her not being there, even though she couldn’t do much other than sit in a chair.

Anyway, I’m back and ready for the gym tomorrow. Hope it’ll be a good one.

FUKK GIRL. Damn. I know how hard it is. I’ve been to mothafukkin hella and back with my moms health and ensuing mental health problems all triggered from bullshit cancer. Its cray and SO EMOTIONALLY STRESSFUL. The dad part too. Totally get it.
(((((BIG HUGZ)))))

that’s me squeezing you hard. like so hard your back cracks and you can’t breath and you wish i’d stop but i keep going, hard.

big hugs.

Well, finally Flo showed up, 40 days after the start of the previous bout. I think this is my longest cycle ever. Let’s hope the bitch doesn’t stay for two weeks like she did last time.

I’m still snorting and snuffling a bit but was well enough to hit the gym.

Warm-up: usual shenanigans

Bench Press:

Bar x 10
30kg x 10
40kg x 10
45kg x 10
50kg x 10 (yay!)
52.5kg x 8
55kg x 5

(50kg = 110lbs/55kg = 121lbs)

Bench is getting better. I was happy to add two more reps to my 50kg and then get 8 reps at 52.5. I do have to be mindful of the shoulder but whilst there is always a little discomfort, like background static, it hasn’t given me any serious cause for alarm.

Barbell Clean and Press (from floor):

3 x 30kg x 5

There was a barbell lying on the floor. I decided to use it. No other reason, really.

Superset: Plate Pullover/Wide Grip T-Bar Row:

2 x 10/10 (20kg/20kg)

We sometimes do a combo of plate pullover and hip thrust in circuits. I decided to mix things up and give vanilla pullovers a try.

DB Rows:

24kg x 10/10
26kg x 8/8

Close Grip Pulldown:

50kg x 10
55kg x 7

Was starting to flag by this point.

5% Incline Treadmill Walks: 22mins

5 mins @ 5kph
5 mins @ 5.5kph
10 mins @ 6kph (approx 4mph)
2 mins @ 5kph @ 1% - cooldown

Did a few handstands, forward and backward rolls but wasn’t really feeling it by this point. Was definitely not in the mood for any aggressive stretching. Hungry I guess.

5 mins @

Great benchin’!
Question:
Do you bench with a powerlifting type form? Like more lat/tri/back arch, less chest??

uhh sending you short period vibes <<< >>> ha-ha.

Mostly. I don’t have a great arch because my back doesn’t bend that way but I use a shoulder-width grip and concentrate on retracting my scaps and pulling the bar apart. When I was young and stupid I benched bodybuilder style and that’s why my shoulder is so gnarly, so I actually have to bench the way I do to avoid pain.

121 x 5! That is fawkin Monstrous! LOVE IT.

You officially annihilate me on bench.

Having arms like a T-Rex is good for something!

Hey Cal, I know your not the hugging type so just saying hi and maybe holding your hand a bit
