LUCKY!!

I just watch people doing stuff wrong.
One thing I really noticed is that everyone does the lat pull down and the seated row wrong, yet they all seem to do it in such a zomebie-like state. They’re so out of it, just a rowin’ and a pullin’ along. I don’t think any of them have any idea that they’re supposed to be working their backs, strange.

Good job on the weightlift-age increase-age! You seem to set PR’s every other workout!

Me=jealous!

Cal, you’re definitely a badass.

I did a backwards roll to get off the ground during my complex the other day and thought of you and your gymnastics

Are you taking any Vit C?

That’s quite the arm workout. Nice job.

Supplement regime:

On waking: 1g Vit C and glutamine
With food: Vit D and Omega 3 fish oils
Before bed: ZMA

I take more vit C when I’m poorly.
I have taken more supplements in the past but I’m trying to save money so those are my essentials.

@coyote - Do 'em against a wall! Nadia tells me off for it but until you’ve got the movement down pat, then a wall is your friend.

@Spock - yeah, me too. Most people have no clue. The women are invariably lifting too light and with no idea of what muscles they should be using. The men…well there’s all sorts of idiot there.

Today: back at school. It is FREEZING. Literally. Thermometer didn’t budge above zero (32F) all day.
Did a few sun salutations when I got home to keep my hips happy and foam rolled my back. That’s it.

The girls that venture into the free weights area at my favorite gym location are all pretty good at what they do… I mean they have good form and good little bodies. THEY ARE JUST FUCKING TINY! I mean uber fun sized like lil fitness girls about five feet tall. Mostly hispanic. Adorbs, but ALMOST MIDGETS lol.

Uh, yeah so I’m pretty sure I CAN do a cartwheel, but I’m WAY TOO ESKEERED to try. Just like I’m afraid of cliffs. and motorcycles. going upside down terrifies me.

You are doing awesome training while feeling a bit low. Me, well I am too sick and tired to train today, or just being a pussy. Take your choice.

Cal check yo PMs Girl! no no not PMS… Private MEssages
<3

Yeah, sorry if I’m slow to respond to PMs. Most forums have a little pop-up thingy that tells you when you get new messages but this one doesn’t seem to, so I don’t know they’re there and forget to check.

Snowing here, again. Yuck! Heading for a relatively early bed with a hot water bottle. I’m a bit miserable - last weekend I chomped on the inside of my mouth which then swelled so I chomped it again. It’s really bloody sore (hot drinks and eating is not pleasant, but I really need the hot drinks in this weather) and now my gums and the bottom of my mouth are sore as well. I think I’m run-down - cold has gone but I’m still a bit sneezy and gritty-eyed. A lot of the nursery kids are off sick. I blame them!

It is clearly their fault.
Little bastards.

Damn Cal, you can’t catch a break with the viruses. This is your second year teaching–hopefully–your immune system will rebound after this year and be strong as fuck for a good long while.

Good job going for the handstand fw roll–a crash mat or (even better) a spotter would go a long way to helping you get that skill.

Taking to your bed with a hot water bottle sounds like the sane and smart thing to do.

I am finding for myself that I have great trouble resting and taking time off training due to illness. Even when I know that is the correct thing to do because my body is giving me the signals to back off. I get grumpy and aggravated if I can’t have my “fix”.

Just a different sort of addiction, methinks.

Ah! Feel better, cal! I hear you on hot beverages. It’s been particularly mild weather where i live until allllll the sudden and it’s thrown a lot of people onto the sick-bus. What kind of winter are you having there?

I’m the opposite of a gymnast, so I would take any advice Nadia gives you over mine buuut when I was first really working on handstand pushup stuff via crossfit, I had a ton of trouble getting the feel of upside-downness until someone showed me how to construct a harness out of bands for assisted handstand pushups. It got me outta my comfort zone (I.e.: right side up) and got me comfortably working the full ROM. I will try to find a picture/video of it.

It was stupidly mild up until January but we’re “enjoying” an arctic blast at the moment - it’s snowed twice during the past week and whilst it hasn’t stuck around, temperatures haven’t climbed much above freezing. It’s promised to get warmer next week, but not as warm as it has been.

Enough about weather.

It took me too long to drag my fat arse out into the cold and off to the gym this morning and my lazy alter-ego almost talked me out of it. But I got there and put in a couple of hours. Gym was pretty cold too - hoody didn’t come off until right near the end of the workout.

Due to the SI mishap last week, I avoided squats and didn’t go for maximal reps on the millies (I arch my back a fair bit when I’m struggling) but I think my presses were still solid.

Military Press:

Bar x 12
25kg x 10
30kg x 10
3 x 32.5kg x 6
3 x 35kg x 4

Bench Press:

Bar x 20
30kg x 10
40kg x 10
45kg x 10 (about time!)
50kg x 7

Superset: T-Bar Row/Push-ups

20kg x 12/12
25kg x 10/10
30kg x 6/10

Last set of rows was not great. I just lost it.

Close Grip Pulldowns:

50kg x 10
55kg x 8

Straight Arm Pulldowns:

20kg x 15
25kg x 10
30kg x 8

First time at 30kg. I made a lot of ugly faces and grunted a fair bit.

After that I messed around on the mats. After watching a handstand forward-roll tutorial video (from Gymnastics WoD) I realise I don’t quite have the strength to lower myself out of the handstand with control. I tried walking my feet up the wall and lowering myself (basically the negative phase of a handstand push-up) but couldn’t do it.

I did a few handstands, crappy cartwheels and headstands, though. I’ve nailed the straddle headstand and today did crow into handstand and back into crow for the first time ever. I thought it might be a fluke so I tried again and got it again. It’s hard work though!

Also did some split work. Still not there. C’mon, I’m getting impatient!

Then I weighed myself. I knew I was heavier last week but I’ve not eaten much the past three days (just protein shakes at school and soup and tuna when I got home) so was hoping to have lost it again, but no such luck. I am 11 stone 1 (155lbs) so 2lbs more than I was a couple of weeks ago. Bah.

Worse still, I checked the BF and it is higher now than when I started the bloody diet. Of course, you have to take these handle machines with a pinch of salt, so I’m not taking it too seriously, but it’s annoying nonetheless. (I’m still 4lbs lighter than when I started the diet, but that was a month and a half ago!)

Went grocery shopping and did not buy any treats whatsoever. No fruit, no nuts, no cheese, no houmous, nada.

First off, MAN, you have a real strong upper body!

Secondly, sorry you’re not losing the weight you wanted, maybe try a different dieting style or something? Some people are just better suited to one type of diet over another.

But yeah good on you for not picking up any treats at the grocery store. Nuts were a BADDD thing for me. I haven’t bought them in months. Nuts=me getting fat, haha. It’s just that simple.

I am so jealous of the tumbling. I just ran into some guys at my gym last night who told me about a tumbling club at my school where I’d have access to a state of the art gym and instruction for $60 per month. I’m really tempted and you aren’t making it easier.

And yeah, your upper body is fucking ridiculously strong!

Oh I can’t tumble. I can only do very basic stuff - forward roll, backwards roll, headstand. Can do a handstand for about a second, and my cartwheel is ugly. But I’m happy I can do any of this stuff seeing as I picked up gymnastics at 43, having been completely dyspraxic as a child.

It’s amazing that you’re doing so much after having dyspraxia! Do you still feel that it affects you much?

BTW, I am joining the tumbling group. We’ll see if I can work up to what you do  Thanks for being an inspiration.
