I’d finally do some yoga if this is how it was taught. lol

Congrats on the weight loss! I know you wanted it to come off a bit faster at the beginning, but hey, 2lbs is not too shabby at all ! Looks like you’re getting back into the groove of things.

Looks like your cycle is still more sorted out than mine is. my period just comes randomly once or twice throughout the year. I still think I get PMS though, which is weird. Usually during the beginning of each month I’m overly hot and cry and think crazy irrational things, heh.

It makes me so happy to see the bench pressing here, and then do the conversion to realize that its 121 lbs!!! That is so awesome!

Yay for weight loss, boo for sore throat.

Unfortunately, despite me downing several grams of Vit C and 800mg of ibuprofen, glasses of limewater and green tea with fresh lemon, my cold has blossomed and I feel like shite. So I decided discretion was the better part of valour and am not doing circuits today. Which is a shame as I actually like circuits. I think my achilles will thank me as it hurts quite a bit today. I’m going to the movies later even though I don’t much feel like going out, but I’m going with a friend so I don’t want to let him down. Sitting down shouldn’t put much stress on the old immune system.

I hope I can get to the gym tomorrow. I’ve missed a lot lately and it annoys me.

Are you taking a zinc supplement? That might help with boosting your immune system.

Oh and I did my at home yoga to Jay Z today. No one says you have to listen to the sitar to do yoga.

I take ZMA, so yes.

I’m just happy it’s an actual cold with sore throat and sniffles, rather than the weird virusy-thing I had in November that wouldn’t go away. That might actually have been some sort of 'flu, I don’t know. At least you know where you are with a cold. Plus, whilst I feel like crap, my voice is awesome.

Yay two more pounds!

Booo cold :frowning:

155… you only want to lose what maybe another 5? 10? Hate to remind that they’ll come off kinda slow when you’re close to your target.

Depends. To fit comfortably into all my (recent) clothes, another 5 would do it. To see abs, I reckon 20lbs.

Yeah I guess abs are my Summer goal too… I mean my obliques still vaguely show in a blurry fashion… but it would be uber cool to see more than obliques… then again if I get to 140 and they aren’t showing yet… well, we’ll see. I’ve um never seen mine!

True, but you are still lean enough to pose in undies. I have a lot of fat from the waist down. If I had never touched a weight I’d be a classic pear. As it is, I’m a pear with a Toblerone stuck on top.

Still fighting this shitty cold but as I’d missed yesterday I made myself go to the gym. I didn’t push myself hard - I don’t feel up to doing anything that will make my heart hammer. But I did lift some weights.

Usual warm-up including stepovers and the like.

3 x Superset:

Inverted body rows x 8
Front squats (oly bar only) x 12

I just dumped the oly bar on the safeties for the rows - it didn’t move around too much. Squats were just to get some blood into my lower half.

Superset:

T-Bar Rows (neutral grip): 20kg x 10, 25kg x 10, 30kg x 7
Decline push-ups (feet were on the T-bar): 10, 10, 10

DB Rows:

24kg x 10
26kg x 10

Close Grip pulldowns:

50kg x 10
60kg x 6

Straight Arm Pulldown:

20kg x 10
25kg x 10

Pallof Press:

15kg x 5 (per side) <— Too heavy. Tried 10kg initially - too light.
12.5kg x 10 (per side) <— Just right

That was it - wanted to be out in an hour. I have to teach the after school club later today and wanted some time at home beforehand.

In other news, I’ve found an OTC chest med that contains ephedrine. Didn’t know you could still get that here (in the UK). You can only get 9 pills at once, though. Anyone have any experience taking this stuff?

the ephedrine should give you a little boost of energy and clear your sinuses. It all depends on the dosage which I suspect is minimal. If you’re prone to nerves and jitters don’t combine with coffee (or strong tea).

thats the kind of stuff people buy and pair it with caffiene pills to make it like the diet pills you could get back in the day.

when I take cold meds like that it makes me not want to eat but also messes with my sleep at night.

I’ve never had ephedrine, but I have had pseudoephedrine and I find I just get a little energy boost.
Hope you feel better soon!

Ah I started to write something in your log but then realised I had turned it into a rant about my cycle, so delete delete.

Sorry to hear you’re sick again but can at least function.

I’m still impressed you GO to the gym when you’re sick.

Srsly. I NEVER do such a baby.

Way to soldier!

Not only that but I had to travel across London to teach the after school gymnastics class. Didn’t want to, but I was telling myself, you need the money. Which I do.

I do feel a bit better, actually, but not sure if that’s the chest med. I only took the one pill (plus 100mg caffeine) and didn’t notice a massive difference but there you go. It probably woke me up a bit.

Didn’t sleep particularly well last night - not sure if that was down to the ChestEze (which I had around 2pm) or just the fact my nose was particularly snotty last night and I had to keep waking up to blow it.

So I was still feeling grotty this morning. Played Skyrim. Had a giant cup of tea and a piece of nicotine gum. Then another giant cup of tea and another nicotine gum. Then another giant cup of tea, a ChestEze and 100mg caffeine. After which I began to feel nauseous. Funny how that works.

Went over to the window, took some deep breaths of fresh air, told myself not to be such a pussy and went to the gym. Had a damned good session despite the cold, despite the period that won’t fucking stop (it’s day 11 now, c’mon).

Warmed up with some light dumbell raises and shit.

Millies:

Bar x 10
25kg x 10
30kg x 9 (+1)
32.5kg x 7 (+1)
35kg x 5 (=PB)
37.5kg x 3 (think this is also a PB - definitely a recent PB anyway. Last rep was a grinder but I wasn’t giving up)
40kg x FAIL - WTF? Did I tire myself PBing on my other sets? I’m not having that!
40kg x 1 (=PB) That’s more like it.

I felt sure, after doing really well on the earlier sets, that today might be the day I got 42.5, but after the first fail on 40 I realised that wasn’t going to happen. Guess I shot my load on the earlier sets, so to speak. But at least I got that rep on 40 on the second try.

OK, next.

Superset:

Rear DB flyes: 6kg x 12, 8kg x 10, 10kg x 10
Push-ups: 12, 10, 10

The 8kg reps were prettier than than the 10kg reps (more elbow bend on the latter). I normally do these facing away from the mirror but someone had turned the bench around so I could see. Traps pump up huge on these - almost as good as Hallowed’s.

Hang Power Clean:

30kg x 8
32.5kg x 5

Didn’t like these today. Decided to move on.

Dips:

10, 8, 6

And she’s back. No shoulder pain. Fuck yeah.

Supserset:

Overhead DB extension: 18kg x 8, 18kg x 8
Seated supinating DB curls: 8kg x 12, 10kg x 10

The DB extensions are the kind where you hold the DB with both hands
It’s weird because the first five reps seem easy and then, BAM, failure. Guess my tris are fast twitch, huh. I was going to go up to 20kg but as I only got 8 reps on the 18 I stuck with that.
Happy I’m curling 10kg (22lbs) pretty comfortably now.

All that made my arms and shoulders look pretty swole, if I might say so myself. Can’t wait to rip the fat of them so my horseshoes look even more obscene.

After that I did some gymnastics. Handstands are getting better. Cartwheels - think I’m almost there. I need to video these so I can see what I’m actually doing. Backwards rolls - yeah, can still do, more or less. Splits - I’m about an inch away with the right foot forward (two or three inches with the left). I cannot do box splits (the JCVD type) and doubt I ever will. I would like to be able to do a Japana though.

So yeah, pretty successful workout, all in all. Not bad for an old crock who was feeling shitty when she woke up.

no shoulder pain, thats great!! Keep it up…

and feel better.

I thought I had read some where that Zn and Mg compete and thus when taken together they don’t actually increase Zn or Mg levels in your system. I’ll look for the source.

In my quick search this article came up. I only read the abstract, so I don’t know the exact methodology, but it seems as though the ZMA is good for your back muscles.

The effects of dietary supplementation with zinc, magnesium and zinc plus magnesium on muscle strenght in active women

Author(s): AA Ravasi , F Kazemi , P Hanachi and Sh Jangi Oskuee
Study Type: Research | Subject: nutrition
Article abstract:
Background and Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of dietary supplementation with zinc, magnesium and zinc plus magnesium on muscle strength in active women. Materials and Methods: Forty active women selected randomly were randomly divided into 4 groups of 10 each, all undergonig resistance training and receiving, daily, a supplement of either zinc (50 mg zinc sulfate), magnesium (250 mg magnesium oxide), or zinc plus magnesium (50 mg zinc sulfate plus 250 mg magnesium oxide), or no supplement (control group). All the subjects had a history of sports activity. Blood samples were collected and 1-RM was measured at the beginning and after 8weeks. Results: Independent and paired-sample t-test showed that zinc, magnesium and zinc plus magnesium supplements had no statistically significant effects on the strength of lower body muscles. However, the magnesium supplement had a significant positive effect on the strength of upper body muscles (chest, back, as well as back and hand bending muscles). In addition, the zinc and zinc plus magnesium supplements affected significantly the strength of the back and hand bending muscles. Further analysis of the data showed that the zinc plus magnesium supplement had no significant effect on the serum zinc and magnesium concentrations. Conclusion:Dietary supplementation with zinc, magnesium and zinc plus magnesium can effect desirably the upper body muscles strength in active women. My period’s gone up and left the last couple months. Sorry it seems to have found it’s home in England.

I’m going to have to google box splits and Japana, and I would love a cartwheel video.

Strong pressing, and glad to hear the dips are back!
