I like the fact you had the discipline to do the at-home workout. Make deals like this with yourself more often!
Yeah, I definitely have some minor DOMS in the lat/serratus area from that.
Woot woot! Its been about 2 years since my hips were 39, not bad for a 5’7. Yeah my belly seems to be a bit more stubborn the older I get, not that I care about seeing ab definition but just to have it less poofy would be great. I know it depends on what I eat too.
No pre-Christmas melt down, I’m not allowing it from you or me.
No ma’am!
No workout today. I have felt tired and crappy all day. Now I realise I have the beginnings of a sore throat. Oh hell no!
39" and below for hips, I know I am making progress. It’s always the first place I store fat…grumbles…
Keep going!!!
And remember, feeling good about your body will feel better than all the hard work you can undo with a couple months of lazy eating. Then Spring comes around and we smack ourselves in the head. I’m with you there.
Cal: Sorry about the sore throat. Hope that gets knocked out quickly. Your at home workout was kick ass. Very cool. And congrats on those body comp changes. Very nice.
The sore throat disappeared the next morning. Either my body dealt with whatever bug it was (there are things going around the school) or it was a shouty sore throat rather than a virus.
I decided to break from routine this morning and rather than do squats then spin, I tried a different circuit class at 8am. This is with a different instructor and is rather different in style - no toys like kettlebells or ViPRs and the circuit is broken up into four sections of three exercises each, so you do three ab exercises before moving to three conditioning exercises (eg burpees, steps ups, lunges) then three strength exercises (in this case, front squat and press, aka thrusters; push-ups and barbell rows) then three more conditioning exercises. I found I was pretty awesome at the ab exercises even though I never train abs but I really suck at stuff like burpees and mountain climbers. (My foot doesn’t much care for anything involving a lot of toe flexion either).
Before the class started I was telling the instructor I had a foot problem and had to be careful on stuff like lunges and this tall skinny bird points at my Vibrams and says, scornfully “and you are wearing those? You should be wearing proper shoes with orthotics.” I wanted to throttle the bitch.
I didn’t do much after the class but I did go into the gym and do some unassisted pull-ups.
Chins: 4 x 3 (did 4 x 2 last time)
Pull-ups: 4 x 1
I haven’t done an unassisted pull-up in some time. All that greasing the groove last week must have helped.
There were long gaps between sets because I was yacking to the only other girl in the gym who trains with any seriousness but that was fine, there was plenty of intensity in the circuit class.
Also did 10 dips but my muscles were too tired to do more.
Cal: Nice work on those pullups–your diet and training efforts are paying off. Motivation I’m sure to keep going!
That circuit class sounds a lot like my bootcamp class. Fucking mountain climbers always get to me too.
I sort of wish you had throttled her. Ignorance is so annoying.
Good job on training those chins and pullups. I’m working on them again too.
I ate a lot yesterday so I actually felt pretty good this morning. The agenda: squats, then circuits (the fun one).
Warm-up:
20 hypers
20 reverse hypers
20 clams
20 single leg thrusters
10 step overs (bar on pin 8)
10 step overs (bar on pin 10)
Slightly abbreviated warm-up but I wanted to get down to business.
Squats:
Bar x 20
30kg x 20
40kg x 15
45kg x 12
50kg x 10
55kg x 6
57.5kg x 4
60kg x 3 (+1)
62.5kg x 1 (PR! This was the weight I pussied out of last time. And it wasn’t so hard, in the end. So…)
65kg x 1 (PR!! Fuck yeah).
Well I was suitably happy. After losing the mental battle against 62.5kg two squat sessions ago I not only went back and kicked its arse today, but also went on to 65kg. That bodyweight squat isn’t far away at all (and damned close if I can get my weight down to the next jump which is 67.5kg - that’s 148.5lbs. I’m a little way from that, I think. I will have to check but I don’t want to spend money on weighing myself when I’m short of cash).
I didn’t do any boring old accessory work after that as I was doing circuits, and there are enough squatting and jumping and lunging-type movements in the class. I did a few handstands, though, and I managed to get one perfect one that I held for 5 seconds. I am very hit and miss, though. Mostly miss.
Circuit class was good - this is the fun one with the kettlebells and ViPRs - and there were a few nice young men to gawk at. The one in front of me during the warm-up had a particularly nice arse, which made the warm-up a lot more fun.
I have to admit I love the pump I get during circuits - I am starting to look badass. I probably look a bit scary to some of the others.
Anyway, I’m in a thoroughly good mood now thanks to the squat PR and a good class. I’ve had a bath and a protein shake and am ready to get on with the rest of Sunday.
yay for squat PRs and good moods!!! ![]()
well done my friend.
Aw man! Freakin-A on the Squats!
and I demand badass picture ![]()
Sorry, camera has no timer and I don’t have a good mirror.

I don’t believe it’s even possible to say “Mountainclimbers” without the word fucking preceding it.
Well done on the squats! You just keep on killing it in here.
Cal: Awesome job on those squats!
A squat PR!!! So much for being broken. Well done. Its also great that you’ve found some classes that you like. Not being able to run has unexpectedly resulted in finding some good new stuff.
Yeah, although today (Monday) has been an incredibly lazy day for me. I was planning on going to the gym but when I woke up my abs were so sore I didn’t know what to do with myself. Ugh. Will make it up tomorrow.
Glad to hear you’re getting better and continuing to lift respectable weight while dieting. Awesome work in here!
Fuck yeah Cal! Yes we want some badass pics, as soon as you can of course.
