Caloric Needs of the Hardgainer?

What’s wrong with the term?

  1. It establishes limitations before you even begin.

  2. It will cause you to “settle” for any results you can get even though your approach may be far less than optimal.

  3. It forces you to believe that your potential is so limited that you won’t even be “average” in the weight room which lead to less strength or size gains.

Do you really need more reasons?

People don’t like it because it’s supposed to refer to those who are at a real physiological disadvantage for adding muscle far beyond having a high metabolism. There are few true hardgainers. There many more people with high metabolisms who need to eat more than they think to add mass.

I’d estimate that my calorie count is accurate to + or - 200.

My workout is…

Warm up (with 45lb bar)(one superset)

  • Overhead squat 1x8
  • Side lunge 1x8
  • Sot??s Press 1x8
  • Stiff Leg Deadlift 1x8
  • Clean and Press 1x8

Squat: 20 reps

Rader chest pull: 10sec x 10

Bench Press: 6-8 reps

Chins: 6-8 reps

Military Press: 6-8 reps

Deadlift: 6-8 reps

One Legged Calf Raise: 10-12 reps

Abs: Crunches, (Rounding spine.) 6-8 reps

Grip: Crushers, Plate holds 6-8 reps

Neck work: Wrestler’s Bridge

(Deadlift and squat are done on separate days)

(I usually do one intense work set)

(I don’t have a day system set up, I can’t understand why people base their workouts around arbitrary dates when recovery conditions aren’t constant so I just go whenever I feel ready, usually 4 days rest.)

I guess the main consensus here is that I need to eat more, I’ll try adding an extra 200 cals a day and see what happens. (I’m in the process of absorbing what John Berardi wrote as well.)

Regarding that hormonal suggestion though, I’m noticing a slight build up of fat on my mostly fat free body around the lower gluteal , upper thigh area. Isn’t that more of a female fat pattern? I also have some gynecomastia but I just assumed that it was from puberty.
