I have access to pretty much anything.
The Varsity Weight Room, Training Quarters, etc.

Cal-Berkeley, huh? Does the name Pat Dixon ring a bell? If so, send him my best.[/quote]

Yeah Coach I know his son, played against him in High School, if we are referring to the same guy. If I see him I will.

Nice. I’ll be sure to call ahead and have the gym owner clear all the housewives off of the adductor machine so that you’ll have something to do while we’re lifting.

Nope; different guy. Pat Dixon was hired last fall to work in strength and conditioning on campus; he’s an old buddy of mine from UCONN.

Ok, so the question I have for you is:

hip flexors–I squat wide and will be a natural competitor. I may shift to gear later, but for now, I want to find the body’s limits unassisted. So, I’m getting this pain/discomfort in my left side, feels like hip flexors. Hurts in the bottom of the squat. Doesn’t affect performance as I just made a 30lb PR 3 weeks ago. However, it sucks a lot of my mental focus. I can’t seem to loosen it up by stretching. Any specific stretches you know of? and do you think ART will help?

Ankles–Achilles tendons–looking at getting into Oly lifting (practice only), would like to know how to increase ankle and wrist flexibility. My right ankle doesn’t respond to trad. stretches as my left does (very well, too). Any ideas on other kinds of methods to get flexibility? Would ART help this too?

Long message, I apologize. Maybe just a few brief sentences for things I could look into would be nice.

Keep up the good work.

Scratch that - I decided to change up my workout that night, just for you cupcake (although my adductors are feeling a little flabby). I will call you tonight.

I train in my high school’s weight room, and I really couldn’t imagine a better enviroment (at least after 3:00 when all the freshmen are done benching and curling). Everyone there is there for a common purpose, and that is to get as strong as hell and help our teammates get strong as hell. It’s a beautiful thing.

ART would definitely help. Have you just done static stretching? Things tend to be slower to respond to static stretching, especially if you’re in a profession that has you seated a lot. Try the Bulgarian Split Squat EQI Mike and I outlined in the Neanderthal No More series. Also, get yourself a foam roller and start working on it. Some PNF contract-relax flexibility work might help, too.

First off, make sure that you have some decent shoes for O-lifting. If they’re too flat, you’ll be in trouble, as you want a heel lift. Try some loaded passive stretches (e.g. on a leg press) prior to your sessions. As for the right-left discrepancy, have your chiro/ART look at it; chances are that you’re lacking a bit of dorsiflexion on one side and he might be able to adjust you to correct it.

For what it’s worth, I have always thought this site needed more articles geared towards athletics. I understand the majority of articles will always be written with the bodybuilder in mind, but I would love to see some geared towards athletes, especially when it comes to nutrition.

I am 41 yrs old…compete in masters and professional class as a highland games athlete(was on 2003 Team Usa as an amtr)took 5th in the masters world championships in 2004…train at two commmercial gyms plus field work…as a side note my partner in crime is my wife who is the top female amtr highland games athlete for 2002,3,4 for North America and the world record holder in two events, she is also 2003,and 2004 masters world chamipion this while being 42 yrs old and the mother to 5 children(23,22,15,11,10)we both live in a suburb of NYC about 30 miles north…both ex-powerlifters who have been lifting for 20+years

I’m 15, I wrestle and play football for my highschool. I wrestler 171/189, and I’m a lineman. I didn’t play as a freshman but the coaches told me I’d better get my ass on the team next year. We don’t have many big guys, so at 175 I’m playing line, which I’m cool with.

I used to lift in my basement, now I go to the YMCA, and do football workouts at school.

Age: 20
6’ 185
Sport: Baseball, RHP closer
Level: Adult Amateur; my college has no team

I train at the gym, and throw on the turf field, it’s a damn shame to go to a D1 school without a baseball team. At my fastest I only throw in the low 80s, so I’ll never go further, but I love to pitch.

Its hard to lift heavy during the season bc I worry about my shoulder and elbow health, so if anyone has input as how to workout a PL schedule while being a pitcher that is used 2x a week, I’m all ears.
Currently I bench 325, dead 505, squat 475. I never seem to have a day off either, school’s yr round.

Fair bit of interest here Creasy!!

I’m in Australia.
Play Adult Amateur League Footy (Aussie Rules)
Just done my knee at training (internal knee damage, not sure what yet).
Been Lifting weights for ~7yrs.
Currently train at home (power rack and oly set) good gyms are hard to find.
Age 27
Height 181cm
Weight 83kg

Be interested to hear thoughts on weight training for Aussie Rules Footy, and knee rehabbing (although I think you’ve already covered a fair bit of stuff on the latter).

Denham Brown is a legend, especially after scoring 111 points in a game (who the hell gets 47 points in a minute.)

EC I was wondering what high level basketball universities do off season in terms of quickness and agility, there any tricks to the trade outside of agility ladders, dot drills and quick feet plyos?

Eric-

During School, in the football gym.(Thank God, those poor souls down stairs don’t have jack… except loose and bent dumbells, a wide variety of plates ranging in size, color, and shape.)

24 hour fitness while at home. Usually get a free pass there. I don’t know where to look for one of these “hard-core” gyms. Would be nice… except for the tail keeps me coming back to 24 hour fitness. (Plus they have lot’s of curling machines… lol just joking)

Wherever is free really…

Oh yeah! It would be nice if you could do an article on just like speed, agility, reaction, quicks.

I know one of my weaknesses is quicks. I may be able to go linear fast and make a few sharp cuts… However, I need more quicks from side to side… and things like stopping on a dime! and then gaining acceleration quickly again. Stuff like that.

It’s wierd… after practices my inner groin area is shot. All the cutting etc…

I think it would be cool if someone could create an article with all these components and have it be the the quickest and best way to “recruit” these attributes. (Speed, quicks, agility, acceleration, deacceleration, reaction, etc)

I figure this scrawny to brawny challenge will put some strength and size on me. (which is equally important given fball) What does physics say… A larger mass colliding with a smaller mass guess who wins? larger… In the end, it would be great to have some more comprehensive and integrated articles of the above.

I told myself I was not going to post anywhere else on this forum but my thread… and here I am… Fooocus

Last 2 cents …No more!
