Ok, so the question I have for you is:
hip flexors–I squat wide and will be a natural competitor. I may shift to gear later, but for now, I want to find the body’s limits unassisted. So, I’m getting this pain/discomfort in my left side, feels like hip flexors. Hurts in the bottom of the squat. Doesn’t affect performance as I just made a 30lb PR 3 weeks ago. However, it sucks a lot of my mental focus. I can’t seem to loosen it up by stretching. Any specific stretches you know of? and do you think ART will help?
ART would definitely help. Have you just done static stretching? Things tend to be slower to respond to static stretching, especially if you’re in a profession that has you seated a lot. Try the Bulgarian Split Squat EQI Mike and I outlined in the Neanderthal No More series. Also, get yourself a foam roller and start working on it. Some PNF contract-relax flexibility work might help, too.
{quote}Ankles–Achilles tendons–looking at getting into Oly lifting (practice only), would like to know how to increase ankle and wrist flexibility. My right ankle doesn’t respond to trad. stretches as my left does (very well, too). Any ideas on other kinds of methods to get flexibility? Would ART help this too?
Long message, I apologize. Maybe just a few brief sentences for things I could look into would be nice.
Keep up the good work.
First off, make sure that you have some decent shoes for O-lifting. If they’re too flat, you’ll be in trouble, as you want a heel lift. Try some loaded passive stretches (e.g. on a leg press) prior to your sessions. As for the right-left discrepancy, have your chiro/ART look at it; chances are that you’re lacking a bit of dorsiflexion on one side and he might be able to adjust you to correct it.
