Good.
Depends on your tolerance. Many use a 20mg/200mg Ephedrine HCL/Caffeine split three times a day. Don’t start with close to that much though.

Hi,
Ok I cant use ephedrine but im a former heavy coffe drinker. How much a day? I usually take 200mg before a workout and 100mg on a non-workout day.
So is this the general consensus then I.E Caffeine good for wieght loss?
Thank’s
I think it is. It helps speed up the metabolism. Most of those shitty thermogenic supplements (besides HOT-ROX) primarily help because of the high doses of caffeine they contain. Still, you don’t want to overdo it. Sleep is important for training and good health. Don’t have too much-I’d say 4 cups of coffe max-and don’t have any too close to bed.

Hi Jsbrook,
Thanks for the good adive, Iv’e cut down to 200mg a day so an up to 400mg would be great :-)))) However I remember reading many years ago a T-Nation article about caffine being bad for insulin levels and heavy coffe drinkers having the same insulin response as a diabetic.I cant remember the particular piece but it’s why I asked if it’s “ok” to drink on a cut.
Doberman, I believe heavy consumption of caffeine can compromise insulin sensitivity–at least in some individuals. I think Dr. Lowery has addressed this issue a number of times here.

Ahhhhhh ok thanks Crowbar so keep the caffeine low 600mg a day and it’s usefull then?
Well, I’d say 600 mg./day would be considered too high by Dr. Lowery. Try and reach Dr. Lowery and ask him to add his opinion here–i’d be very interested in hearing what he has to say.

Ok I asked LL on prime-time and this is his response.

Ah, caffeine. It’s a Jekyll and Hyde substance. It aids lipolysis (fat breakdown) but too much can lead to raised inflammation markers and cortisol elevation that might contribute, ironically, to central fat gain over long periods. The trick is to consider its isolated timing (say 90 min. prior to fat burning exercise or weights) rather than lean on it all day long.
Individual tolerance varies greatly but I personally will go with a half tab (100 mg) accompanying my half-caf java (weird, yes, but it gives me more options when I want coffee without getting wired). And I limit this to a few days per week even during periods of hard training.
Moderation in all things.
