Busted Knuckle Garage Workouts

Its good to have goals!

Hey girl, looking good. Sometimes we all feel a little under-motivated, you’ll get it back. In the mean time just keep hitting the weights and doing your thing.

You and I are the same height (I think), curious why you’re shooting for 130 when you’re so freaking strong at your current weight. Is it an aesthetics thing?

Good luck re-evaluating and charting your course for the coming months.

Oh, and feel free to think out loud!

N8tive: I can relate. It’s so great when a goal chooses us and we are able to pursue it with single-mindedness and passion. I’ve been struggling with pinning down exactly what I want to accomplish too. But, I think I know what I want now. I hope inspiration strikes you soon too. I can’t wait to see an impassioned N8tive training!

wow nadia… i never thought of it like that, but yeah. it really is so great when a goal chooses us and we pursue it with single-mindedness and passion. i’ve been a bit lackluster / almost aimless lately, too. need a goal to choose me. of all the things i want to do…

MiM - yea something to achieve for makes me want to touch the stars…

Veg- great question, mostly cause I want to see what I would look like at 130lbs. The closest I have come (ever) is 134, currently I am at 140lbs or so. But it seems I get to 135 and stall out, everytime. Just out of reach and seems like it shouldn’t be.

Nadia— you are so wise. Most of the time all my “goals” have come to me very easily (not getting them part, but picking em part) & so now here i am with no real purpose, which is okay but i can feel it efffecting my training severly.

I started training to distract from other bad habits I was quitting, to shed the extra 70lbs I was packing around and just in general to make myself a better person. Then my mom died from Kidney failure as a result of Lupus - so that really fueled my fire to stay healthy and be passionate about it. All of these things keep me motivated and moving but right now the fire behind my ass feels more like a warmer on a cold winter night after sleigh riding or something - not this burning furnance that will engulf me if I stop, which is what I am used to. So this month or so here of just mediocre work and training is about to drive me looney.
Ahh but I will survive and soon enough that furnace will kick on, but in the meantime I will keep doing my thing and warming my butt

I think I know how your feeling…
The thing we started because it was fun or to get healthy now feels kind of like a chore?

I talked about it in my log, but there’s so much more than just ‘working out,’ for the above average health enthusiast.

We set the bar higher and when we get there we want more…the key is not getting burnt out(or injured!) along the way.

3/27 Sunday

Squat
150lbs x 3
160lbs x 3
170lbs x 4

BW walking lungs
1 x 11
2 x 12
2 x 14

Good Mornings
95 x 8
105 x 8
115 x 7
120 x 6
120 x 7

OH Squat
bar x 7
65 x 6
65 x 6

Band Assist GHR
3 x 6

Ruck 30 min with 50lbs

Okay this is an intersting workout… Here’s why. I didnt want to workout to begin with so I convinced myself to go down and AT LEAST squat. Then I was down there I convinced myself to at least work on my form on the Walking lunges and OH Squats. Then the rest fell into place. I felt that I had to Ruck after this cause yea it always make me feel good. So as you can see I did a lot of mind manipulation to get thru this and with pleasing results!!! yea for me.

yes, yea for you and STRONG work…

rock it.

Gots a vid of the band assisted GHR…

I want bands!

This is where I bought mine for fairly cheap… they may not be the best but at the time the price was right and they have done everythin I have asked of em. I got the 2" ones.

Ha! I love that you buy training gear from McMaster! My family owed a factory for years and the previous incarnation of veggie was as an industrial chick, work boots and cargos, etc. They probably carry tons of stuff like ropes and chains that would be fun to play with.

To echo MiM and impart a bit of my own philosophical approach:

THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ‘WORKING OUT’ AND TRAINING.

Personally, I train. You have never once heard me refer to what I do as working out. To some it is semantics, but not to me.

Best of luck sorting all of this stuff out in your head, you’ll know what the right thing is… trust yourself.

Sometimes, getting into the gym is 90% of the battle.
I need some bands too, for pull-ups.

My personal opinion here…To say you have a butt warmer goin in maybe how you’re feeling, but to get in there and get it done sounds like a furnace to me, the fire is there my lady friend even if it is embers…they’ll spark…and to us mere mortals at the beginning phase you’re still an inspiration…just sayin

would those work for pull-ups too??

would I get the 3" ones since I weigh more?

THANKS!

MiM - I have used the bands for PUllups too, I have used the bands for a ton of stuff & never had any problems or questions with em. Do it up!

Jufram- thanks for the kind words. Makin’ me feel bette already!!

Vegg-- Well aren’t you just the wise one! EVerything you stated makes the utmost sense & I get ya a 100%

Cal- I agree I would rather not train a 100% than deliberately miss a session.

hey, n8tive, love your improvised GHR! I’ve been trying to think of how I could do them without the equipment. Thanks for the idea.

Good luck with your goals. I find that focusing on one or two at a time works better for me than trying to accomplish 4 or 5 at once.

(Also very sorry about your mom. That must have been very tough for you. Good for you for persevering.)

what are you doing??!?!!? I think its cool, but I dont get it!

it’s a glute-ham-raise, Bre. I’ve been trying to do 'em, but don’t have bands (boo! your set-up looks perfect!) so I get a bit of pylo-pushup training in at the same time. People eventually do 'em no hands and no bands. I reckon they are a bit of a mile-stone. Like a pull-up etc.

Could your feeling a bit blah have something to do with your weight loss? Maybe not… But just wondering about that. MIght make the mental component harder. But you are still soldiering on… And making progress towards your goals. You are an inspiration to me.

Lanels-- glad that you could/can use the idea. I thought it was great and I have made more progress with this method then any other. How do you like my ghetto GHR machine, I built it. Got it from Ross. I can post the link if anyone is interested…

Bre- yea its a band around my chest to help me get strong enough to do a Glute ham raise… I am have been working on it for like 3 yrs.

Alexus - Well I think its the feeling of non-direction. I have been eating normally and resumed back to all the I was doing before. But who knows. I have decided to take the next 4-5 days off for a de-load. I realized that I have not taken a proper de-load since the 1st of the year. SO yea during that time I will figure out what direction I am going.

This year is a monumental year for me, well kind of. It’s my 10 year anniversary and I will be 30 (although I really dont care about the age thing). The anniversary thing is a big deal and I want to look, feel and be the better now than I was 10 yrs ago
