What do you think?
Another ‘affronted’ Fem Leftist with no regard for personal freedoms.
Weiss’ mention of Amish, Mennonite, etc. attire is a propos.
A Burka ban would not go far (thankfully) in the U.S.
But what does this have to do with wearing Nazi attire and flag burning, anyway?
Here is the original news article on CNN.
Yes, lets “free” people from oppressive societies that restrict what they can wear. AND to do this we must all unite together and force people to dress as we see fit!
Banning burkas is absolutely no different than making them mandatory. I mean, they really think they are freeing people from clothing laws by making laws to dictate clothing options?
I think it’s ludicrous that people claim to be protecting women’s rights by forcing them to wear clothing they don’t want to wear. Sure, some women may wear burkas and be oppressed…but some choose to wear them. I understand not wanting covered faces in government buildings, but beyond minimal safety concerns (which should apply to ALL clothing that may cover the face), a government should not dictate clothing choices.
They have the same immigration problem we do, I applaud them for having the political incorrectness to do something about it, unlike our government here. This is their attempt at sending a message.

I would suspect there are more direct options to deal with immigration. This just makes them look silly.

That’s kind of where I am here as well.

Seriously. If you want to deal with immigration, deal with immigration. Banning an adult from wearing a type of clothing because if might have an indirect effect on an immigration problem is nothing to applaud them for. Maybe we should ban low riders or tacos to help deal with our Mexican immigration problem. How freaking retarded can this stuff get?

Although I don’t disagree with you, consider that Mexicans don’t have a habit of immigrating to a country, bombing it from within, being a part of international terrorist networks, and slowly but surely attempting to instate their own form of court system/government into whatever country they’re living.
Muslim fundamentalism, like Christian fundamentalism and all other kinds of fundamentalism, should be fought wherever it is.

My point about the Mexicans was about restricting basic human freedoms to send a â??messageâ?? while failing to address, even remotely, the actual issue.
Plus Mexican immigration to this country has drastically changed the US, illegal use of publicly funded systems is stealing, and I think you might be kidding yourself to think that Mexican immigrants arenâ??t a voting block (including the illegals) that have a substantial impact.
But like I said, my point was about directly addressing an issue. This is like banning red cars because Ferraris drive to fast.

You can easily say that when you are in Tennessee.

I could easily make some statement about certain state level policies leading to an influx of illegals in certain states, but I think you are missing my point.
If you don’t want illegals where you live, make laws addressing it. make penalties harsher, start deporting, stop hanging out free money. Low riders and tacos aren’t the problem.
I am not saying you shouldn’t do anything about it.

No offence, but starting to deport is something that was fashionable in the 40’s. In Western Europe there is a steap increase of muslim population. Mosks are increasing in numbers, the stress on the social security is high. A lot of criminality and the risk of terrorism (London, Madrid, etc).
Burka’s are a sign of fundamentalism and should be restricted. They “cover” it with the reason it’s because of women’s rights, but in fact it’s a way to call a halt to fundamentalism.

What is wrong with deporting? here we don’t even deport illegals that are convicted of crimes.
Then why ban the “sign” rather than the act? Because you are attempting to ban certain thoughts.
The founders of the US were pretty much all fundamentalists (settlers as well as fathers). Today reading the constitution is a sign of fundamentalism, maybe we could ban that.
According to the DHS, serving in the armed forces is another sign. Maybe we could ban military uniforms.
When they’re wearing a burka, we can’t see them press the suicide button.
In general, I really don’t care how they chose to go about protecting their national identity if that’s what they wish to do. I am not appauled by this. It just seems like a silly way to go about it.
[quote]msd0060 wrote:

because we can see it in a pocket.
How many suicide bombers are even women and how many of them actually commit the act wearing burkas? (serious question)
This is my point. If you leave your native country because of some kind of oppression, then I think it is appropriate to leave that behind and become a part of your new country. My point was not so much about deporting or not deporting, but rather that there is a huge cultural divide in France, as well as here in the US. For example, in Canada, there are only Canadians. Here in the US, we have Latino-Americans, Asian-Americans, African-Americans. Why do we maintain this alter identity?
